First thoughts on uf hire

Seems a lot like zook. Defensive guy. Muschamp was the last guy I thought would take the job.

He could be a bust, he could be the best ever. Either way, UF is not a job where a guy should be cutting his teeth as a HC. For that reason, I think its a terrible hire.

i'm really wondering what happened with Petersen
my initial thought is that UF must've struck out with quite a few choices and wanted to make a quick hire.
i honestly don't understand it. and if Applewhite really is the OC, it seems even worse.

It makes sense if you think that following in the footsteps of a very successful coach is a tough-win situation for the new coach. Anyone immediately following popular/highly successful coaches like Bear Bryant at Bama, Spurrier at Florida or Saban at LSU were doomed to always be compared to their predecessors. Urban was also highly successful, so not many coaches want to be inserted in that situation, especially if they already have a good job.
I am guessing they are following the same plan as last time, when they hired Zook. Give unproven coach a chance...if it doesn't work out, cut bait and lure the hottest HC on the market.

Not at all. Zook was DC of the Saints, with minimal college experience. Muschamp coached multiple NCAA NC caliber teams.

He has been mentioned for every major job available.

Makes me worried that we may be screwed if Miles leaves for Mich.....UF job is at the very least = to LSU, and it may be better and they obviously settled for Muschamp. This tells me that the guys that everybody thinks are up and comer Head coaches are looking to stay put and we would have to go the coordinator route (which I would hate-they can be great they may be crap you never know) or a second tier guy. All this with the fact that we have a very good recruiting class that we need to hold together-especially with Mett.

He's a solid coach, just a weird situation for him following a coach like Meyer at a place like UF.

Any LSU fan should be elated over this.
Of any SEC team, we have the most to gain out of Texas's recruiting class with their coaching staff falling apart.
Add to that an unproven staff at our cross-division rival, and the potential that we can pick off a couple from Florida?
Damn, I can't wait for the next 3-5 years of LSU football.

Think this will be the nail in the coffin to the whole "coach in waiting" thing....it's just a way of keeping a carrot dangling in front of a coordinator's nose so that he doesn't leave for a head-coaching job somewhere else.
