Think this will be the nail in the coffin to the whole "coach in waiting" thing....it's just a way of keeping a carrot dangling in front of a coordinator's nose so that he doesn't leave for a head-coaching job somewhere else.
There's only a few schools where it would work, and Mack Brown wasn't close enough to retire, yet.
The only other college that can really do it now is Penn State.

for 2 years it seems this board wanted him as the next lsu coach, now he takes uf and people thought they could do better.

I'd take him in a heartbeat at LSU. Following Meyer is a tough job for almost anyone.

the people who are saying this is a bad hire aren't the same ones who wanted him at LSU, for the most part.

and it may be better and they obviously settled for Muschamp. This tells me that the guys that everybody thinks are up and comer Head coaches are looking to stay put and we would have to go the coordinator route
What it tells me is that Jeremy Foley might just not be very good at hiring head football coaches, he got lucky by rolling the dice on Meyer.

I'd be surprised if Jeremy Foley makes football coaching hires all by himself.

Florida is fuked this guy has done "Nothing" to deserve this type job. His resume is worse than Kiffin. He was a figure head DC on nickys staff. He goes to Texas as his own DC and they suck it big time every year. The most overated coach since Kiffin. This hire will get Foley fired in 2-3 years.

It makes sense if you think that following in the footsteps of a very successful coach is a tough-win situation for the new coach. Anyone immediately following popular/highly successful coaches like Bear Bryant at Bama, Spurrier at Florida or Saban at LSU were doomed to always be compared to their predecessors. Urban was also highly successful, so not many coaches want to be inserted in that situation, especially if they already have a good job.
Exactly...the Frank Solich effect. Even though Frank came in and had decent seasons, he was never going to be Osborne.
quote:Possibly, so. Maybe they feel that with all of the recent success, that it can carry the program over a couple of mediocre years.
I am guessing they are following the same plan as last time, when they hired Zook. Give unproven coach a chance...if it doesn't work out, cut bait and lure the hottest HC on the market.
Personally, Chicken, I think this is a terrible hire. Not saying Muschamp won't be solid, but UF is not a job to hire anyone without HC experience.

I don't know I thought they had a decent squad last year.

I hate quoting or direct responding to you, because it seems like arse kissing, but this is a very good way of grasping this hire.

i'm well aware, just as i know there have been many threads on this board the past few weeks asking for him and even more last year.
i never said i agree or disagree. i think it's a toss-up hire. i love his attitude on the sidelines but how much has he done to say he should be a head coach at a major program?
