We need recruiters on staff now since we lost Raymond so Golding and for some bizarre reason BK thinks Cooks is a suitable replacement both from a coaching perspective and recruiting. Only thing really about Golding that's questionable is his fundamental coaching. I don't think this should be a concern if position coaches are doing their jobs but when you hire an analyst like Cooks that comes into question.

I would be happy with either one of them. I would go after Elko now and get him recruiting for the good guys immediately. I think he has more control over his D, has improved his D, and his recruiting should be fine. The worst case scenario is we miss on both, but force two top competitors to pay more for their DCs.

I know Pete. He doesn’t care about Frank Wilson. He does love Saban and vice versa. Saban put Golding’s office right next to his and leans on him more than any other Bama assistant. Pete I’d comfortable waiting out the right HC job or a ridiculous bag to make a lateral DC gig

Golding is from Louisiana. A lot of guys like to come home to coach. Especially for bags of money.

Ahh...good to know. I didn't realize that. Thank you.

Can you point me to the announcement where Cooks is coaching DBs and is expected to pick up Raymond's recruiting responsibilities? Thanks.

Elko will not leave A&M for anything other than a HC job

At this point I would say Elko, and Golding are the front runners for DC.

Kelly wants an dominant recruiter for the DC hire.

Both are solid.

Golding checks more boxes.

Better recruiter.

I feel like if it was Elko, he'd be here by now. Would love it, but don't see it happening.

Elko. Main reason is the gumps I know hate Goldings pass defense and the gump games I've seen this year seemed to support that.

Kelly was pursuing him(Elko) as the number 1 target. Past few days nothing happened/moved. Ship might have sailed.

Golding is getting lots of attention as well. Wouldn’t be surprised at all if it were him from the information I have received.

Golding would make sense. Louisiana guy wanting to come back home and get out of Saban's shadow. Would be an excellent recruiter. Better DC than he gets credit for.

I don't think they're going to get Golding. Why would he leave Saban for a bad LSU team? He'll probably look bad next year with the shifting going around on the roster now. Next season is going to be rough unless we hit the transfer portal perfectly with starters.

He has a cushion job under Saban and can just wait for a HC job somewhere without worry about program instability like LSU. I don't see this happening even if they dump a bank on his lap that Bama would probably match anyway.

Only thing I can see is it will look better for him to revitalize an LSU team and call it his own scheme so nobody can question him as a DC under Saban. That's probably the only selling point LSU would have but I'm not sure it's enough.
