Based on the performance of the D-line this year, in light of the senior talent we had, it's safe to say that they underachieved. This could be attributed, at least in part, to the guy who was coaching them.

With that said, would Coach O be an improvement. Obviously, he would be a recruiting asset and I've heard about his shirtless motivational tactics. But does anyone know how he stacks up as a coach fundamentally? Can this guy coach up our D-line talent? Is he better than Lane in that regard?

I would have to say yes. He's been at miami, u.s.c, and ole miss. At all three stops the defensive line talent and performance improved.

I wish we would stop attacking our own.

Is it not enough to express the belief that LSU can, and should, improve at the DL coaching position and that Coach O would be an improvement?

Thee is no need to say "Lane is Horrible" and "Malleveto are idiots", etc.

Replace them and wish them well in their future endeavors.

These guys are getting paid heavily to put a premium product out on the field. They are not above harsh criticism.

Perhaps, but I agree with BlackHelicopterPilot. It is more constructive and appropriate to the conversation to cite examples and develop arguments rather than to use language that is judgment laden and vague. That's the kind of language that makes rational folks want to disengage.

My 2.

FWIW - the Saints D-Line play was atrocious this year. Not saying its his fault, but it was poor from a mechanics standpoint. Smith and Grant couldn't get past an Offensive Tackle if their life depended on it.

As for recruiting, we have done very well under Hensen's leadership. Of course, the more good recruiters the better.

It seems Coach O's best attributes (aside from recruiting) are motivation and discipline. That is much needed. But our guys do still need solid fundemental coaching.

Yes. He's had success at this everywhere along the way... and he's even improved the Saints defensive line this year. Hell they shut down a couple unbelievable running backs...

atrocious? really?

while O didn't work wonders with them it was still a solid DL. Grant was actually having a pretty good season before his injury. They've also gotten pretty good production at the DT spot despite a shite ton of injuries.

The Saint's DL might not have been the best in the league this year, but they are vastly improved from last year. That is on O.

Also Lane is terrible. frick if you don't want to hear it.
