This resume is pretty damn good.

Is it though ? Is it a resume worthy of a top 5 job?

Dave has a better track record as a DC and better quality wins.

Tucker in his coordinator experience has either been a co-DC or working under a defensive HC, Saban, Kirby, Del Rio. His stint as lone DC didn’t go that well.

Way too much unknown with him to be a front runner here

I agree with you here BilJ

I think it's a similar resume to one Kirby had when he got the UGA job.

If Tucker had stayed at UGA the past three years working under Kirby, would the narrative around him be more positive?

I think they're comparable and wouldn't complain one bit about Aranda. I'm definitely more interested in a defensive hire than offensive. If O did one thing, he helped pull this offense out of the stoned ages. With the athletes and QBs on roster/coming in, I ain't worried about that side.

Smart defensive minds want him around for some reason.

Are we going to do this game we did with O where we intentionally narrow the field and pretend no one else is worthy?

I'm just generally curious, BigJ. I'm a fan of Tucker. I think this thread obviously shows that. Obviously that can fall of the tracks in the next 6 weeks depending on his results the rest of the year.

Would I take Lincoln first? Absolutely. Would I rather Fickell? No doubt. Franklin? I think I'd rather Tucker, and that's me being truthful.

There are some great The Athletic articles on Tucker's operation at MSU and how they go about things off the field in terms of recruiting, staffing, how they target specific players, etc.

I'm intrigued, what can I say.

Think Id rathe Napier and Aranda over Tucker, but we all have our opinions on who we would like as HC

different circumstances but a fair comment

what does he need to finish at IYO?

My feeling on him currently is that he's pumped a mid level program full of transfers and been able to beat some poor to mediocre teams. Which is nice, but not really showing me he's a program builder yet. Some people are acting like Michigan St is some dog shite program he's made this remarkable turnaround at. Michigan St values football and he's got nice resources and facilities at his disposal.

Tucker does not deserve to be the head coach off merit. If having on good season (which still has 4 very loseable games left) is the only criteria to being the head coach of LSU, then this is not based on resume.

So ignorant. How many good seasons did Kirby Smart, Ryan Day, Lincoln Riley, Dabo Swinny have? ZERO.

Obviously 500 or better would be ideal. ETA (I mean against the ranked teams. He better beat Maryland).

But I'm more interested in how they play and compete.

And this trepidation is very understandable.

each of these were at least running highly regarded units on their side of the ball. Tucker does not have near the coordinator resume any of those mentioned above had.

Two of the 3 were also already working at the school for a number of years under already successful regimes. The third was an alum of the school that hired him

You're not comparing apples to apples and you know that

We are not hiring a coach whose best win thus far in career is against a 3-3 Northwestern team and about to get their shot pushed in next 4 weeks.

MSU usually does compete with these guys and typically steals at least one. So not really interested with moral victories, with several of these being at home they absolutely should be competitive in them. He needs some Ws to show he's elevated the program.

I think what op is saying is that once you take away the top candidates, it’s hard to definitely argue anyone is a better option than Tucker. Everyone has an opinion, but there’s nothing very definitive.

And I think that’s the same discussion going on at the top.

Also, have a downvote.

This is simply an incredible shallow stance.

Is it really that hard? There are other guys in the Big Ten alone with more robust head coaching resumes than Tucker.

Tom Allen coached at Ole Miss under Freeze, and was Big Ten Coach of the Year last season. At fricking Indiana. Yet I haven't seen one post about him, while Tucker is supposedly a worthy candidate after one half-season.

What record for final 5 games would MSU have to have to change your opinion?

3-2?

4-1 I'm very impressed

3-2 depends on the combination. He should absolutely beat Maryland and probably Purdue regardless, so he's got 2 right there.

Why do we care who Mel gets to coach with him at Mich St?
