Does Everyone Think LSU Recruits Itself?

I've read through post today and seen some stating will be fine LSU will always be able to attract top talent even if Miles leaves. I'm going to tell you now that is unrealistic. Think back to the 80s and 90s we lost the top talent in this state to the likes of FSU, Colorado, Notre Dame, Nebraska, and Miami. The right leader is what gets them here. Sure we have the brand now but look how fast you can lose it when you lose that leader (insert Miami). If we don't get the right guy to replace Miles we'll be in that situation. LSU can only recruit on it's name brand if the product on field stays the way it is.

One of the best things about Les is his ability to recruit. I'm afraid for LSU for the next 5 years or so after he's gone...

lots of folks think this, they are are wrong however

LSU will continue to recruit itself for some time if we do in fact bring in a poor recruiter. Kids grow up in Louisiana admiring one college, that's LSU. Look at some schools that have dipped in productivity but still recruit on their name. Notre Dame still recruits with its name, granted LSU isn't Notre Dame but it seems to be a decent example.

The only thing LSU does recruitingwise is give it's coach the opportunity to recruit at the best level he is capable of

The fact that you rattle of 5 universities that recruit nowhere like they used to make your point makes me not sure if serious.

If LSU wins on the field, it doesn't matter who is recruiting players.
It will recruit itself. That is the cycle of recruiting.

LSU is not and will never be a school that simply recruits itself. LSU's success has come at the price of hard work by Saban and Les in a fertile recruiting area. It's not like kids from Texas, the panhandle, S. Florida, Miss, Bama, and other nat recruits are like "frick yeah I wanna go to BatonfrickingRouge Louisiana more than anything in the world.

I think Miles has been a great recruiter. I hear people saying that we are thin at LB, and it doesn't seem like we've done a great job getting OL or QBs, but still, we have legit players all over the field.
That said, I think Miles is only a pretty good coach in areas other than recruiting and that we can do a lot better. Will we do better? I don't know, but I'm not scared.

LSU does recruit itelf, unlike in florida where there are three top programs. LSU is a championship contender unlike in the 80's and 90's.. kids want to compete for a championship and have their family watch them play.

See Archer, Hallman, DiNardo and then see how much talent from LA played for other programs during their times

No University recruits itself.
But, LSU is sitting in the midst of arguably the most talented state in the country.
Miles has never been recognized as a football mastermind and has never been known to coach kids up. In fact one of the SEC coaches tactics against LSU is Miles inability to coach kids up.
LSU and it's recruiting will be just fine.

Once again, the whole landscape has changed. We have facilities now. You want to know why Miami isn't recruiting as well, FACILITIES. Also, the television aspect has changed as well. I don't know how a new coach would do but please stop comparing to the 80s. Things are completely different now.

they aren't recruiting well because they aren't winning, coupled with Florida and FSU being in the same state.
even then, they are pulling in top 20 recruiting classes.
winning breeds good recruiting
People assume because Les Miles is nice, that he is a great recruiter. And he is. But he has 3-4 assistnats that are ACE recruiters as well as great position coaches.
But even a smug prick like Nick Saban recruits because they win 10 games EVERY year and he puts kids in the NFL.
that is the bottom line. Winning!
