TCU getting left out has nothing to do with a championship game. The round robin is a superior format. It was about the fact that TCU has little history while Ohio State is a blue blood.

Being in the MWC would've made it more likely for him to leave. There was no way he was ever going to win a National Championship in that conference. He's now in a more respectable conference making it more likely for him to win a championship and less likely to leave TCU.
How is this any different in favor of him wanting to leave TCU?

nah. methinks the playoff will be 6 (or 8) teams next year. of course, ptterson will probably not have a good team next year.

No way they change it that fast. It took them more than 10 years to change to the playoff that everyone wanted after the LSU/USC/Oklahoma year.

OP asked if getting left out would make him leave TCU.
I responded with he got left out in 2010 and he didn't leave. Why would he want to leave this time.?
So for him to want to leave this time, something would have had to change to make him want to leave this time. The only thing that's changed since then are 4 teams now get a shot and he's in a more respected conference. That improves his situation from last time. Therefore, no getting left out wouldn't make him want to leave.
The whole thread is about him wanting to leave or not. It shouldn't be a hard concept.

If TCU were to lose their best coach ever right after getting fricked out of the playoffs, their program might never recover.

It would just depend on who took over. I think if TCU could keep one of the co-OC's and get a really good DC, then it could still be okay.

Sure, they have a chance to remain solid. But the odds would be against them if this scenario plays out. They could not afford the next guy to not be a very good hire.

I mean, look at the debacle that Bama became after Stallings, SC after Pete, Michigan, ND, etc.

In my opinion, him passing up other what would be considered by most to be better jobs in the past with a chance to chase trophies just proves to me he values TCU and what he has going there over going somewhere just to win a ring. Don't get me wrong, every competitor wants to win it all, but sometimes other priorities put things in perspective. It's a lesson a lot of us could take something from. I, myself, get caught up furthering my own aspirations and forget about what I already have at times.

Duh. My point is, the Bamas and USCs of the world can recover. TCU could potentially be lost in the wilderness. I'm not arguing that it will happen, just that the Frogs are at greater risk. Which is pretty obvious.

I think no because I don't think this had to do with TCU's status as a program. What makes Ohio St. has been built over decades. Ohio St. didn't just become relevant. TCU just doesn't have that historic clout, and its a small christian school. I think people by now TCU well enough. He keeps TCU competing and they'll get their due. People aren't as fooled by "big program" chest bumping these days. I also don't think Patterson runs a gimmick type team. His teams are genuinely pretty sound football teams overall. I think baylor is more along the lines of a slightly more gimmick team than TCU. Patterson has won with good defenses and balanced attacks and even drastically changed his offense this year.
