Does anybody else prefer the so-called second tier coaches

I think we would be better off with one of these so-called second tier coaches, Napier, Campbell, or Fleck. All three would be guaranteed very solid coaches at a program like LSU. To me they just seem like much safer pics than the so-called first-tier lineup of Fisher, Aranda, Tucker, and Riley.

This all seems subjective. Tucker is second tier to me.

Yes, because being third place in the SEC is the goal

Lower 2nd tier at that but he gets extra points on the CRT scorecard to bump him higher on the list

The first tier is Riley, Petersen, Jimbo and Aranda.
Aranda’s resume obviously doesn’t match up, but familiarity puts him on this level.
Campbell is a second tier candidate.
Fleck, Tucker and Napier are third tier or below, and would be terrible hires.

Riley and Aranda are in no way in the same tier.
Aranda might turn out to be a homerrun but in no way would he currently be in the same tier as Riley.

According to Rabalais the odds on favorites are:
Jimbo 5-1
Tucker 7-1
Aranda 20-1
Kiffin 25-1
Napier and Franklin 30-1
Riley 35-1
Fickell 50-1

Not that I necessarily agree, but I will say that we’ve all seen “homerun” hires fail and “meh” hires succeed.
“homerun” hires that didn’t meet expectations and/or failed:
-Frost/Nebraska
-Kelly/UCLA
-Harbaugh/Michigan (jury still out)
-Muschamp/Florida
-Herman/Texas
-Fuentes/VaTech
-RichRod/Michigan
-Richt/Miami
“meh” hires that were successful:
-Dabo/Clemson
-Orgeron/LSU
-Pittman/Arky
-Rhule/Baylor
*my only point here: don’t get too up or down on the hire…regardless how excited or disappointed we are when the hire is made makes no difference and is irrelevant to the eventual success/failure on the field

I agree that Aranda has become a first Tier candidate, but so has Tucker. However I disagree that Campbell is on a higher tier than Napier and Fleck. All 3 are on that 2nd tier, but would be much more solid hires and better long term solutions than the so called first tier candidates.

Why?

Napier for me. I believe he’s the right fit right now. The biggest attribute is in hame adjustments. This is something we have sucked at for too long.

Said differently, I’d prefer a young, up and comer than a pricey big name....
I’d rather see a legend made here, rather than trying to buy one...

The logic here is that they haven’t reached their full potential yet and the tier one coaches have probably showed you all their tricks. I get it but you must also acknowledge any of them would be more of a gamble

I agree 100%

Home run hires that met expectations
-Saban/Alabama
-Urban/Ohio State
-Spurrier/South Carolina (arguably)
Still think we should shoot for an established coach.

What makes them safer picks? The fact that they'll command less money, even though we'd get out of any buyout with any coach if we wanted to move on?
You guys act like it's your money. It's booster money.

That's why you've got to study everything each coach does. His program. Is he above average to great or sorry as sand when it comes to the massive challenge of organizing and running a corporation like LSU. How does he get along with his players? Will they play for him or play dead, as we've seen LSU do this year? If you can find those and more great qualities in Campbell, Aranda, Napier, Tucker then that's great. Find the coach with gold in his skills. Not his name.

You absolutely know nothing about the sport or what it takes to be a coach. You have zero contact with any college coaches, players etc. could be the most ignorant take I’ve seen so far..

Yeah, go with familiarity, let THAT be what puts him “on this level”…that’s the reason you’re in this mess dummy. “He’s one of us..”… ring a bell?

Would rather one of the 2nd tier more than Jimbo.
