Austin is a lot more appealing
True, but Tuscaloosa isn't bad for a married couple in their early 60s who both grew up in a very small town and enjoy being around campus life.

the nuts in your fan base are driving Saban away
One of the most overblown myths in college sports. These "nuts" don't even register on the meter and are far removed from the social circles the Sabans surround themselves with in Tuscaloosa. Not even a consideration.

Yeah but he's talking about the 15%. Finebaum callers, that class of Bama fans, will shite bricks.

However I am convinced that anyone waiting around to witness a meltdown of the Bama fans might seriously be disappointed, sure there will be some but honestly how mad can you be at the man who won 3 NC's for your school and left it loaded with talent for his replacement.

Any one of us who suffered through the Shula years would STFU. The only "meltdown" would be from dumb bandwagoners and dumb young kids. I don't know too many fans like that personally, but I am aware it is accepted knowledge on here that Bama has a lot of dumb sidewalkers

Its hilarious how Bama fan is so dam confused thinking Nicky never leaving, but he fought to have it put in his contract that he can leave whenever he wants, wherever he wants, without penalty! NOW WHY WOULD THAT BE????
So he could up and leave if he wanted to. It's actually a benefit to us also, if it hadn't worked out, we wouldn't be in the position say...Nebraska is right now where they CANNOT fire a guy they'd love to right now because it costs too much.
I find it rather humorous how much the other fanbases would love to see Nick leave. Hell if I was a fan of another team, I'd love to see him go too.
If Malzahn ends up running off 2-3 titles in a short time frame, you can bet your sweet bippy me, every Bama fan, every LSU fan, everyone BUT barners will be looking for an NFL team to hire him away too.
So to actually answer the OP question. Yes, I think he'll go because he's at an age he'll have at best one last move in him, and rebuilding at Texas would be a short time frame proposition.
He really doesn't have anything left to prove at Bama, and coaching is a business. He and his wife will be the ones who make the decisions how that business is run. Nobody else, and money won't have a thing to do with it...let's face it, nobody would outbid Bama to keep him.
It's going to come down to whether or not they'll give him complete control of the program. If they do, he'll probably go. In their shoes...I would.

Stadium was full even when we sucked. I was there, every game. Sorry.

All I know is somebody's gonna melt down hard core. Either Alabama, or Texas.
And that's a win for everybody else no matter what and I'm loving every minute of it.

Saban is a micro-manager, and assistants, especially defensive assistants, do not fair well when they are handed the reigns.
IOW, the Saban coaching tree doesn't have many branches; especially defensive related..

Can't lose to Auburn every year
Eta: and there was a lot more to it than just that and his record last two seasons and I don't wanna go into it. I like Mike Shula as a person, I thank him for his time given to the University of Alabama both as a player and coach. He coached us through a difficult time. But he was in over his head.

Wrong.
Finished 6-6 and then got shitcanned.
26-23 with no higher than a 3rd place finish in the West.

First of all, He Gone!
Let's look at this from a pros (Texas) and cons (staying) perspective:
Pros:
1. Have you been to Tucaloosa? Have you been to Austin? Enough said.
2. Far better weather in Austin.
3. Kids and grandbabes nearby. That starts becoming really important to people at about his stage in life.
4. Recruiting actually gets easier for him at UT, as he will turn UT back on autopilot as he will crank up an already absurd UT recruiting machine to levels never ever seen before from prior UT recruiting classes, as he dissects his usual other states as well.
5. He has said on many occasions that he is one that nearly constantly needs new challenges. It's just how his mind works.
6. If he wants to end up in the Austin area, why not start with the rebuilding of the UT program, and bringing a NC, all while becoming and establishing the legend where he and his family want to be in the long run.
7. There is no way bama can match the money Texas is giving. And believe it or not, he needs the money!
8. NC's at a third school would be unprecedented, and Nick has a tremendous ego.
9. Nick seems to be a bit uppity, and would prob fit in better in Austin, than in bama. LOL

Let's just stop there and now look at the Cons:
1. He doesn't have to go through the hassle of moving, ie. new utility bill deposits, etc. LOL
