Whether you believe them or not, Hannigriff and Moscona have said there was no desire to pay BK's buyout this season until late on Saturday night.
Hanigriff said on his show today that the discussions on Kelly started on Saturday BEFORE the game and that Kelly was basically coaching for his job

Sumrall is a great coach. Amzing what he did at Troy. They fired their coach the season before he started at Troy for going 5-7 and then he went 12-2. Immediately after he left Troy went 4-8.
What he has done this year at Tulane is impressive after losing his QB to NIL.
For all the people who keep mentioning Sumrall, aren't y'all worried he's just Napier 2.0? Why do you have so much more faith in Sumrall to be successful when Napier failed?

Nothing is guaranteed when it comes to coaching hires.

How come Sumrall’s name hasn’t been mentioned until now if he’s a great candidate? With all the coaching openings he hasn’t been mentioned.

Right, but LSU fans made fun of UF for hiring "Sunbelt Billy" so I don't understand why now they seem comfortable with the possibility of Sumrall being hired?

Well, for one thing, he didnt do it all in the Sunbelt, he has moved up a level and continued to win. Why must every lower level coach be compared to Napier, they are all individual people. Why are they never compared to someone who actually makes it, there are quite a few of those as well. So no, Coach A sucking has no bearing on Coach B and his performance, at all.

If Lane Kiffin were our #1 target I don't think we'd have fired Kelly so soon. We'd have held onto him until Ole Miss' season ended and then fired him and courted Lane quickly.
What if lsu wanted to get into the lane sweepstakes before him and Florida got really close? Idk

That’s what up and comer’s do, show up out of nowhere. He only has 3.5 years as a HC at Troy and Tulane, but he has completely wrecked shop in that time

Because thats what fans do? Not sure what you are looking for here. LSU was made fun of for hiring a "murderer" and "Grinding Brian" when we hired Kelly, which was a good hire at the time no matter how it ended.

Sumrall actually has experience coordinating a defense against sec competition. He was the defensive coordinator at Kentucky in 2021. They went on to have a top 25 defense. He also Played in the sec as a player he was a LB at Kentucky so he has coordinating and playing experience against the SEC so he absolutely understands the physicality needed to play and coach in this conference.
Napier played at a D2 school and outside of being wr coach for bama he didn’t rlly have much sec coaching experience. Napier was also an offensive coach who was a mediocre coordinator at Clemson. Sumrall has fielded a strong physical defense everywhere he’s gone . Troy was good defensively under him and so is Tulane. So Sumrall is stronger at his expertise than Napier.

Well he has only been a head coach for 3.5 years. That might be a reason. I believe he was in the mix for the North Carolina job before Billy B got the job.

I took him to mean in this coaching cycle, but you may be right

Well, they both spent time coaching in the SEC and then went on to have great success in the Sunbelt, so I think they have some things in common.
I wonder if he'd take a job at LSU over going home to UK when UK inevitably fires Stoops.

I was looking for reasons why LSU fans weren't overly concerned with Sumrall being Napier 2.0 and a few of you have answered the question.

He was also last second heroic tipped pass for TD away from losing to a below avg Army team two weeks ago. Of course its a game of inches.
Genuinely curious if he loses that game is he still a leading candidate?

Even Bruce Feldman's article said that Woodward and BK discussed staff changes Sunday, but those talks became heated, and things went downhill from there, suggesting that BK could have saved himself.
That's what it sounds like. Almost like Woodward said you aren't picking the next oc by yourself and some things are going to change. And you know kelly probably said "well fire me." Kelly looked super checked out to me.
Buy I don't get the feeling that all the players hated hin and weren't playing hard.

I like him. Plus it won't take some ridiculous contract to get him. Not saying hes my first choice but id be fine with him.
