Is he perhaps a candidate for the PGC?

It was assumed he would follow Brady to Carolina, but the Panthers' coaching staff is quickly filling up with no mention of him.

If he does go, it appears it will be a low-level position similar to what Brady had in New Orleans.

Orgeron said yesterday on the radio that they haven't even started interviewing candidates yet, and would start next week. He also said Munoz is still a candidate and could be brought back.

I assume since Mangas has not been announced to Carolina yet, that his name is in the hat for the job and he is waiting that out.

I'm sure he's learned a lot since he was brought in last February. But the last time Mangas ran an offense, it averaged 13 points one year and 15 the next.

I understand that he wouldn't have total control, but just because he had an association with Joe Brady doesn't mean he's the answer.

I'm certainly not defending him, because I don't know much about him. But there are a lot of variables.

Did he have complete control of the offense?

Did the head coach dictate scheme and system?

What was the talent level, compared to the competition?

The fact that he was at LSU from day 1 as a WR analyst/offensive assistant implementing the offense and in the booth with the play-callers, should carry some weight.

However, Ensminger and Orgeron were around him every day. They know his talent and capabilities better than anyone.

I get that there are other variables. Brady brought him in early as an analyst because he knew he could get him as an analyst. But when Brady's resources expanded and available talent pool expanded, he didn't bring him in. That's telling to me.

I’d be all in on promoting Mangas, wonder if he’d be reluctant to recruit after seeing the toll it took on Brady last spring.

It doesn't look like they've made any offensive staff hires other than Brady and an offensive line coach. We have no idea how Carolina is prioritizing staff hires. Also, it's a pretty big leap to assume he's not a capable coach just because Brady doesn't hire him (IF Brady doesn't hire him).

Do you know how much input/autonomy Brady even has on staff hires? I'm sure he has input, but I highly doubt he's just picking and choosing whoever he wants to fill spots.

It's possible, since Brady is so young, that Rhule wants to bring in more veteran assistants to fill out the staff and create something more like what Brady had at LSU.

Bottom line is, we don't know shite, and nothing Carolina has done with their hiring so far is "telling" about Mangus' coaching ability.

Part of his deal with Carolina is that he gets to hire his offensive staff.

Check the link above. The entire offensive staff has almost been hired, outside of the lower level quality control type positions.

I would think that is a pretty hard sell to add a guy like Mangas as an nfl position coach.

Could prob get him in a quality control role but that’s likely a pay cut from whatever his next college job is.

This is the role I assumed.

Cause he knew Joe brady? Anyone who he touched must be great like McVay last year. Left alone Mangas and Munoz created some of the worst offenses in football. Combining either with a dinosaur and saying just do what your buddy was doing ain't it.

Both of these dudes got fired at their last job. Now the Rant thinks we can’t live without them.

I can find articles or Twitter posts just a month ago among NFL types that thought that hiring Brady as an OC was too much, too soon.

Is it really a stretch to think that DJ Magnas, despite his history with Brady, really just isn't ready to make a jump to the NFL?

I mean, people in this thread are seriously, and rightly so, questioning if he's ready to be our passing game coordinator (I do think it's much more reasonable to think he could be ready for a promotion into that sort of slot, as opposed to joining an NFL staff).

Also Rhule has to be careful about bringing too many college guys to the NFL at once.
