i do love how some people think JDR is a bad hire
We would be much better off with Karl Dorel. He has actually recruited before and dealt with 19 y/o's.

that would be a good transitional guy to help JDR ease into the job
but i mean why do people think recruiting is that hard?

Karl Dunbar would be better as well, as he is an LSU guy.

Before he was in the NFL, Al Groh was a coach in college for like 15 years, including 4 as Head Coach at Wake Forest.

Ok...so what happens when the USC job opens up and he's been successful at LSU for 2-3 years?
My biggest negative relative to Del Rio.

People act like it's the end of the world when a coach leaves.
For him to leave, he would have to be succesful. If he is successful the program is in good shape and you can attract a good replacement.

Plus, if LSU is his "dream job" like the mills are saying, why would he leave?

Let me consolidate the answers to the "knocks" on JDr
1) He hasn't won anything.
Well he's been in the playoffs with Byron Leftwich at QB in probably the toughest division in the NFL.
Not to mention, What did Pete Carroll win in the NFL?
2) He can't recruit.
He walks in says, "Hi I coached on one of the best NFL defenses ever, see this fancy ring(insert SB ring), I also went the playoffs a few times with the Jaguars. Want to go the NFL? I know how to get you there since I played for 10 years in the NFL. Deal?"
Response, "Sure"
3) Is he interested
He's said LSU is his dream job. Not to mention he tried to interview once while his team was playing in the playoffs. He's interested.
4) Timing
This years class is mostly done, plus he can set up a shell staff to handle whats left. Not to mention that even if we take a bit of a recruiting hit this year its not going to kill us, with two 5 star prospects coming up in LA this next class.
5) He might leave.
Big deal. Coaches move around. Saban left we hired Miles(who is still 32-6). Miles left and we are talking about hiring Steve Spurrier or JDR, we can find a coach I promise you.

I see nothing but positive things with Del Rio. Recruiting? If I was a top high school recruit and had Jack Del Rio sitting in my living room I'd be pretty damn impressed. Coaching? What's J'ville, 8-3 this year? He has a history of making the playoffs as well. As far as jumping ship down the road, Louisiana is his wife's home (big reason why he's interested in LSU) and I don't see Pete Carrol leaving USC anytime soon. Bring on Del Rio!

The only reason I'd want to see Del Rio hired is to begin a new tradition of LSU running onto the field to Duran Duran's 1980s hit, "Rio".
I say we make this happen no matter who the coach is.
Fear the Rio
