Unless they started recruiting in the NFL, I don't think he ever has had to do it.

756--Not trying to call you out on this, but I heard Hebert and didn't take it the way you did. Hebert spoke about his ties to LA. and how he was a great guy and all that how he was interested in LSU, but my take was that it was in the past, before he got his HC gig. I didn't take it to meen that Del Rio would be waiting in Skip's office's anteroom for an interview.

how will jack del rio, a succesful NFL HC, convince La. kids to go to LSU? This is way too tough of a sell

Yea, football players go to college to get kinesiology and sociology degrees, not play on Sundays.

Ok...so what happens when the USC job opens up and he's been successful at LSU for 2-3 years?

We'll cross that bridge when we get there.

I gotta now question Del Rio's motivations/abilities if he's a successful NFL coach in the middle of a playoff hunt and he's supposedly 'interested' in the LSU job....

"You People" KILL ME!
The logic of the RANTards!

LSU is suppose to be the best JOB in the World...

Les Miles has a honest interest in UM and everyone thinks he's nuts for wanting to leave...
So what if he played there, coached there, met his wife there, etc. etc.

Then you here someone is interested in the LSU job (Del Rio)...
Wow...there has to be a catch, why would someone want the LSU job...there must be a downside.

I have no hard facts, but word seems to be that LSU is Del Rio's "dream job"...

Why can't ya'll accept that possibility!

Also, word is California does nothing for him, so bailing for USC may not even be an issue. Besides, get over worrying about when someone is going to leave before you even hire them!!

what college credentials does he have?

None, except that he currently coaches at the league all of our recruits want to be told they can aspire to.

Who knows? See above.

I mean, I know next to nothing about this guy.

Great former NFL linebacker. Played and coached for the Saints. His wife is from New Orleans. His family loves LSU. Has (or had) a daughter at LSU. Briefly flirted with the LSU vacancy when Miles was hired. The timing was bad.

However, his contract has been reworked at J'Ville and he is pretty well compensated now.

As far as coaching, he's a former strength and conditioning coach, linebackers coach and DC, all in the NFL, for the Saints, Ravens and Panthers, respectively. Very intense and coaches a good defense.

I would consider it quite logical to think that an NFL head coach in the middle of a playoff hunt wouldnt be talking about 'wanting' certain other college jobs.

'typical rantard thinking'?

nicca please....

doublecutter...
I heard Bobby Hebert this afternoon and took it the same way 756 did, Del Rio's interest is still there.

Also, I had basically already gotten this impression elsewhere...

Guess you can take that two ways...

Maybe it's true
OR
Maybe I heard what I wanted to hear...

Think he would be a good fit...
As for everyone freaking out on the recruiting angle...it's not brain surgery!

Your logic is solid...
My point was that these decision are not always logic driven...

Is Les's wanting to leave logical, LSU is the only game in a talent rich state and spent almost the entire season in the top 5.
No "logical" reason to leave, it's emotional...UM is his dream job, can't fault the man for that.

Word is...(and it may be bullshite) that LSU is probably the only job Del Rio would be tempted by...If true, I think we should rejoice in that instead of thinking he's trying to get over on us!

The only reason I'd want to see Del Rio hired is to begin a new tradition of LSU running onto the field to Duran Duran's 1980s hit, "Rio".
