One thing that I have heard from the media is that the search for LSU’s new DC involves guys that are “still coaching.” Since I’m guessing that it means their season is still going on, does it mean that Derek Mason isn’t the top choice of the bunch?

It just means that a couple of the candidates we are looking at are still coaching

freeman is the guy, we need a black DC to mesh with the kids. Would be a smart move in this day and age

Freeman is the guy I’d like to see us get. Who cares if he gets a head coaching gig in 2 years, if he does then he’s done a good job and we can make another hire. frick going after a retread!

Me and Lester debated these two guys earlier today, I like both of them but I like freeman a little better. They are my top 2 candidates I’d like to see us get.

Freeman checks all the boxes you want in a coach at LSU. He's a risky hire in lots of ways but just about every name tossed around associated with LSU is too. It would be a homerun hire and I think Freeman could tear up the recruiting trail keeping our cupboard full personally.

I dont think he is risky at all

He runs a multiple front
4-2-5
3-3-5
3-4-4

He calls the plays
They run a banjo man coverage a lot of the time, which is man but back off the line

He can recruit his arse off

Sounds like we already have a leg up on the last hire.

There are plenty of white coaches that establish good relationships with black players and black coaches who establish good relationships with white players. This isn't about race. I would be happy with Freeman but it has nothing to do with his skin tone.

Freeman or Reaves.

Freeman is 100% qualified to be the DC here and should be a top candidate, but frick the race bullshite. That should not factor into the decision at all.

You hire the best possible person for the job regardless of race. If you hire based off of race there is a good chance you’re in the same boat next year.

“still coaching.”

Doesn’t give me a warm and fuzzy feeling since all teams are bowl eligible this year.

I would think the only coordinators whose bowl games could potentially interfere/delay a new job would be the CFP and maybe some NY6 bowls...anything less than that and bowl game would be no hurdle and wouldn’t even be a concern. “Still coaching” in the context of LSU’s hire would mean to me they’re coaching a CFP/NY6 team.

There’s maybe 3 guys on this site that would know who we’d be talking to, and they’re not naming names. So f’n frustrating I know it’s the name of the game, if said candidate is currently coaching. Still, I’m an impatient bastard who needs answers now. Lol

Everything else you listed sounded good but how do you not get slanted to death in this scheme? Just asking.

Our weakness has been flats and crossing routes. When we went to the 4-3 we lost effective field coverage in the flats. Dont know if that was just due to personnel or scheme weakness but it has to get better which means CBs have to be lockdown tight.
