I know its been said 20 times but Chiz would be a great hire as a DC. He can recruit with the best and coach with the best too as a DC...hes just not a HC...some people arent..look at Venables.

The season before Chizik arrived, North Carolina’s defense allowed opponents to score 39 points per game. Low points included allowing East Carolina to score 70 points and Notre Dame and Clemson to score 50.

A year later, the Tar Heels allowed opponents to score 24.5 points per game. UNC boasted the nation’s most improved passing defense in efficiency and yards per attempt.

Man, Chizik is an absolutely stellar X's and O's guy who truly understands elite defensive principles and game planning. I had never even considered it might be a possibility but GC would definitely be a home run hire. If he's thinking about becoming a HC again, it's a strong possibility we snag him up for a couple years before he moves back into a HC role elsewhere.

I believe Chiz would make a good DC. My biggest concern would be his drive or motivation. Chiz is basically set for life financially and unless he has a strong desire to become a head coach again I have reservations about his motivations.

But a young guy like Jim Leonhard has the world in front of him. The carrot in front of Leonhard's face at a place like LSU is much bigger for him than it would be for Chizik.

This is key. If Gene has aspirations of becoming a HC again then you know he'll come at a new DC position with full motivation.

Their defense hasn’t been good.

One thing to keep in mind with Chizik, is that with him, UNC had one of it's best stretches ever.

Fedora ran a super fast pace offense. We see here what that can do to a defense's numbers.

Fedora with Chizik.

2015 - 11-3
2016 - 8-5

Without him the next two years he went 5-18.

He wasn't great before him either going 21-17.

So basically with Chiz 19-8 without, 26-35

I'm down with the Chiz.

Not every young coach is Joe Brady. In fact, 99% of them aren’t on Brady’s level. We struck gold with him, but that rarely happens.

Have you never seen a breakdown of LSU’s coaches salaries? Most of the money comes from TAF.

Would be a very good hire for DC. Go back and check his defenses out.

Why not go down the list of every top DC in college football and at least force them a raise?

Would start with Wiscy

I also have to think that he understand how to defend the spread from his days working at AU. That's gotta be a key factor in the decision considering how many teams runs some version of the spread these days.

Agree to all of this and on day 1 he is ready to compete - in living rooms and on the field - in the SEC, particularly SEC W. You can’t overstate that.
