I will give you an example you can understand, LSU baseball. If LSU baseball falls off for about 6 or so years, they would be able to revive with a good hire far easier than Bama simply because they are a major name in baseball.

i'll give you credit, at least you're using dominant and dominate right correctly in this thread

Those coaches made Bama a great program not the other way around. Those coaches would've done very well anywhere they went.

that's only because our prior success pushed money into booster programs and facilities

plus we are a state that produces a lot of talent in the sport, in a region that does the same

it's nothing special about LSU...it's just a matter of circumstance/luck

Agreed. Wallace Wade first made Bama elite in the 1920s.

Had Saban not been desperate to get out of the NFL, Bama would have gone from Shula to Jim Grobe to who knows a few years after that

it's called being a rational thinker

we happened to become great when the sport got semi-popular PLUS our football team sucked so money flowed into the program

college baseball is a niche sport. very few other programs invest in that niche sport at the same rate for the above luck/circumstance

that's typically how success occurs. you provide the right product (which you control) at the right time (which is luck)

where did i argue that Bama wasn't "storied"? you're moving the goalposts

Bama is very storied and has one of, if not the, best historical resume. nobody is arguing that

Let's look at it by decade.

1920s - best program in the country
1930s - best program in the country
1940s - elite, one of the best programs
1950s - sucked
1960s - best program in the country
1970s - best program in the country
1980s - above average
1990s - elite, one of the best programs
2000s - sucked until the end, then became elite
2010s - best program in the country

No one has a history approaching that. Is it something in the water in Tuscaloosa?

I have seen a comment from a USCw fan about Orgeron last week about where he might go after USCw and their thought was Coach Ed is probable better suited for some small southern school. The national perspective is the SEC is still just a bunch of southern schools. It is this perception that keeps the likes of USCw and The Ohio State and Meeechigan in the top tier of nationally recognized colleges.

I would put is as above average in the 90s as well

plus never forget the distribution of graduates from elite schools. the Big10 churns out graduates from elite schools who get to populate the professional ranks of every major metro area

plus they dominate the media and that influences perception

Because of their name. Its the Heisman's, the titles, the AAs and etc. All of which makes up the storied success, which enriches the name of the program.

IMO the second best program in the country of the 90s was Florida. We were the only team in the conference that could challenge them. We got a Natty, a couple SEC titles, and finished top 10 several times. I'd say Bama was a top 5 program in the 90s

They aren't historically dominant you jack arse! Winning 3 straight in the 30s is not historically dominant. Historical dominance is having significant success through out several decades, not when a country is impoverished and decimated. Jesus you are stupid

good let the melt flow through you

the point is obvious. it isn't about historical success. It is about present coaching and present circumstances such as recruiting and facilities.

Take some great historical programs like Notre Dame, Michigan, Southern Cal and Alabama and the point is the same. Alabama between Saban and Stallings was nothing worth mentioning. Notre Dame after Holtz departed became a punch line. Michigan at the end of the Carr era and through Rich Rod (and perhaps Hoke now) is not relevant. Southern Cal went through a bad 90s in spite of their program's enormous prestige and intrinsic advantages because of poor coaching. Carroll goes there as a superior recruiter and turns all that around.
