Is his success due to him being at Alabama? He didn't have nearly the same success as LSU or MSU. The situation makes me think of Kentucky basketball. Lets take Rick Patino for example. While at Kentucky he had them rolling like a juggernaut should. Plucking all the top talent he wanted and kicking arse with no mercy. Then he leaves and the program falls off a bit. He comes back to Louisville and it takes him 10 years to win a title, but has had several Final Four appearances. Not bad, but no where near what he was doing at Kentucky. If he had stayed he would have reigned over CBB like a dark cloud for as long as he wanted. So is it the program or the coach?

Texas is nowhere near the level of Alabama. Not now, not ever before.

If we're talking about actual football

I think Saban was becoming a better and better coach at lsu, he's improved throughout his career. To say he wouldn't have more, or at least equal success in a state with an exponentially better recruiting base, better facilities, and a significantly more attractive city to recruit to on a national scale is pretty myopic.

Lord Saban would dominate all of CFB at the school in Austin.

Wait

Are you saying Texas is the Louisville to As Bama is to Kentucky?

Kentucky is the top CBB job and Texas is the top CFB job

alabama may claim more ships but saban at UT would be the end of CFB as we know it

Where the frick are you all getting this idea from? Where in history has Texas ever been consistently dominate? Miami dominated football over a longer period of time than Texas could have ever dreamed of. Fact

If you're so convinced that it has more to do with Bama than Saban, then why are you Gumps so worried about losing him?

And for the record, if Saban had stayed at LSU, there is no doubt in my mind that LSU would have duplicated what Alabama has done.

Congrats on them playing Austin CC for 40 years.

Now let's look at 10-win seasons, 12-win seasons, bowl appearances, bowl victories, AP titles, BCS titles, Coaches Titles, conference championships, and legendary coaches

They have the most resources, largest fan base, capable of paying the most, endless recruiting pool without ever even having to leave the state if you want...etc. Would you not consider this the best job?

Did they just get all of these things? They have had them before and couldn't get it done but once in the past 40 years so whats different now?

And 18 years olds could give two shits about that.

There is significantly more talent in Texas that Saban could lock down.

Any non biased observer would agree that it is a more attractive town.

The facilities are at absolute worst equivalent to that of Bama.

Saban would absolutely wreck shop there and Bama having some legendary coach that has been dead for longer than these kids are alive isn't going to be a factor at all.

Yes he would have...he had the #1 offensive line class coming in the year he left and things would have just kept rolling...

Yes he has had success at Bama but also be realistic he has had a lot of luck too in playing Texas without Colt McCoy, getting put in the NC game after not winning your division over Okie State the Big 12 champions and you get into the NC game again because Ohio State was on probation or CUM would have been lifting the crystal ball after Ohio State would have crushed ND like Bama did...

Credit is due though you put yourself into those positions by winning and keeping yourself in position to walk through that door if the opportunity presents itself...

Saban is the GOAT as far as I'm concerned...

alabama appears to have a slight edge (less conference championships, but SEC) but saying "its not even close" or suggesting UT isn't at least a peer is asinine and hackish
