the saban smoke is all over the place tonight

Most of the smoke is coming from the same, already-debunked "rumor" (it was just a joke!)

I posted the on the MSB, but the "need a cocktail" part makes it sound like it's a scandal of some kind. People say that when they hear bad news not when they hear a coach is taking a new job.

thats my thinking too, the cowherd thing is separate from these saban rumors... theres alot of smoke... but we don't know if its coming from a fire or a fog machine.

The Saban and Malzahn "smoke" is coming from Jimmy Sexton lighting up his big fat celebratory cigar because of the raise he is going to get them both.

If Saban wants $12 million, he can pack his bags and leave. No CFB coach is worth $12 million. Hell, Sean Payton is making $8 million and Belichick is making $7.5 million a year and they are two of the best and most highly paid coaches in the NFL. That should put into perspective what a ridiculous number $12 million a year is.

In terms of what turning a program around can do to donations and revenue is it really that crazy of a number?

"Saban to Texas" being a "done deal" is all over the Texas message boards. Either they are delusional, or there is something to it.

This is exactly what happened when Saban went to Alabama. No one believed he would, but the smoke kept getting thicker. Finally, it happened. This Texas thing looks just like that.

I would not be surprised.

Wasn't Alabama's Chancellor/President on 60 Minutes a month ago calling Saban the best investment the University has ever made?

He's entitled to the 12 if anyone is stupid enough to give it to him. I won't fault him. But...damn

He is more valuable to Texas the Alabama theoretically

How much can their popularity / revenue / donations grow right now?

Where as a re-energized Texas fan base could be a spending machine

In my experience the UT fanbase is a lot like Alabama -- a lot of sidewalker fans. This would definitely be a move that would send a shitload of people to Walmart ASAP.
