well all the O guys can rest assured, if LSU wins out or only has a close loss to Bama, O is more than likely retained
the fan support will be deafening and we all know how reactionary the LSU admins are based off last year

All that is nice window dressing, and again goes back to him being a shot in the arm. Players got a fresh start and started playing like the talented team they are. That talented team was not assembled by O and that fresh start stuff only works for so long.
I don't see how any of that proves he has shown any ability to sustain a program. LSU is not a tester school.

I'm not an "O guy", I'm an LSU guy. Hell I'm not even cajun.
If O wins out, I just don't think LSU should name chase out of some sense of insecurity about our place in CFB, and rush to replace a guy who just showed you he can win with a guy who maybe can win just so it will have made a splash.
I would be saying the exact same things if it was Dameyune Craig or Dave Aranda making these moves and winning the games.

I don't think it has anything to do with insecurity but rather more hiring the best candidate...

Every single coach has to deal with this. I outlined my opinion on it in that thread. Jimbo is dealing with a bad DC right now, that he hired and fought to keep. Jimbo can't exactly go take over the defense, can he?

This is one hundred percent your opinion of how things might go. You have no way to see the future, just like I don't either. It's my opinion that the changes O is making are geared towards and will support long term success. You see his record at OM and predict failure. Unless you have a crystal ball, you can't say for a fact which one of us is wrong.
Herman could come here and once the film is out on his system he could flop, hell that might be happening right now. Kelly could come here and LA highschool coaches could think he's a smug prick, and we watch our best talent go to Bama or FSU on our way to 5 loss seasons. No coach is guaranteed success at one job simply because they were good at the last, every situation is different.

Honest question, where exactly do you think LSU is as a program? Do you realistically think we can afford to turn our nose up at success just to make a splash hire, in the same year that Texas and USC are both going coach shopping?

Ok since you make a choice not to comprehend. It is a comment, statement, observation about that one piece of another statement.
Successful coaches having a certain measure of success wherever they are. While that is true, it is not 100% as my statement indicates. More often than not, yes.
It was not refuting anybody's post, just a comment, statement, observation, whatever color you like.
If you want to feel like you called me out, then have at it Hillary.

USC isnt firing Helton after one season and they have won 3 in a row after the slow start

So we shouldn't hold it against him that his record made him appear to be a bad coach, we should hold it against him that he has poor judgment?

In this case is Jimbo reduced to "a guy who maybe can win"?

top 10 easily, top 5 depending on the candidate

Of course not, but you know he will have a good offense bc he runs that side of the ball. He has A major effect on the game planning of the games and has shown to be able to gameplan against some of the best coaches of America
Even if we beat Bama and the like this year, does that show me we can do that consistently? No bc again, not his players, not his coaching staff, and according to everyone it has nothing to do with his coaching

Well shite, I can't tell you with 100 percent certainty that the Cleveland browns will miss the playoffs but I can use past results in order to figure out that it isn't something I would bet against
LSU isn't a school where you give O a "chance" to prove himself. It's a top 5 job in the country. Our bar should be higher. I have no problem with O if he goes out and proves his ability to run a program. It's the same reason we aren't hiring a random coordinator to be our coach either.

Cutcliffe and Boone had a soured relationship because Cutcliffe wouldnt fire certain assistants. Thats why he was fired.

If Saban were at Ole Miss I think he would absolutely have them in the hunt for it all. Hugh Freeze has pulled in some great recruiting classes so imagine what Saban could do.

if you were thinking about hiring me to build a house for you, and the only previous house I'd ever built was lopsided, leaking roof, and half a wall fell down every time a snail farted, would you hire me based on me saying I know where i screwed up and what i did wrong?
if he was new to the construction industry on the first house and it came out terrible, then built another house later in life in Southern California that turned out pretty good, then built another one in Baton Rouge, one he is currently working on, and that house turns out to be undefeated with a win of Bama, and is the most magnificant house one could imagine, that no one thought could be built, a work of art, I would hire him to continue building my houses.
Obviously he had become a much better craftsman than he was when he first started in the trades.

I remember in 2006 Ole Miss had us beat. Somehow we managed to get it to OT and won. I distinctly remember thinking O screwed up. Don't remember all the details but....I never thought O was a good HC
Posted on 10/26/16 at 11:01 pm to ShermanTxTiger
really, what the point of talking about coach O being the coach next season until this season plays out anyway. It's not likely we beat Bama and much more unlikely that we beat them and also win the rest of our games. Who can say where the bar is for CEO until the season is over. I'm sure it's got to be pretty high and not that likely to be attained anyway. He's a long shot anyway you look at it.
If he somehow works a miracle with this team, then it's another story.
