Why?

I'm not saying you're wrong, but what does winning the Sunbelt against Sunbelt coaches prove to you that winning the SEC West against Saban, Freeze, McElwain, and Sumlin won't?

Unless he's there for five years it will always be some other guy's players, and the decisions and adversity he has and will face over the next month are pretty good barometers for how his management style may have changed to be more successful.

I'm just saying that comparing a terrible record from a perennially bottom dwelling SEC program against stiff SEC competition to a winning MAC record must be taken with a grain of salt.

Dude did you not read those paragraphs i posted? You make it seem like O inherited the worst team to ever play in the SEC.

If you're comparing MAC to SEC why is that even relevant to this conversation? Your argument doesn't make sense.

He took the job because he thought he could and would succeed. Obviously he overestimated his HC abilities. He has yet to prove that he learned from those mistakes. So why should LSU be his science experiment? Why wouldn't he have to prove himself at some lower level school first?

Honestly, not being a dick here but, what point are you trying to argue? That O gets a pass because his team had stiff competition? I truly don't understand what point/excuse you're providing for his poor success at Ole Miss.

This is a lot of smoke and mirrors. If you're a good coach, you at least still have success, just a matter of how much and to what degree its sustained.

Hallman had success at USM. Look what he did at LSU.

He should be there for 5 or more years. He failed at ole miss. If you want to know that he can run a program long term then yes he should show he can sustain success at a lower tier school. Is that really that unfair?

So we should hire a coach that's never been successful?

1.) it proves that his lip service about changing, actually means something. Prove you can sustain a program

2.) the fact that the lessor programs that are coming after him in your head are Sun Belt teams should tell you all the reasons he is not qualified to be our head coach

Every coach not named Saban or Meyer comes with risk. If you wait around for the perfect candidate then there won't be any left. I could argue that no coach on our list has had sustained success over their entire career. Fedora is the only one with a virtually spotless resume, and he might be the worst hire of the whole bunch.

Asshat. I never said that in that comment.

It's a fricking obervation.

correct

so while you are performing your risk assessment, you must take into account each candidates resume and perceived risk

hiring a candidate whose only HC experience was an abject failure does not seem to be mitigating that risk

Really? Chip Kelly and Jimbo come to mind right off the bat.

Maybe LSU has been one of those programs since 2011

I know there's pride among the fans that LSU is gods gift, but history says otherwise.

Useless how?

The post mentioned a being a successful coach.

Hallman was a successful coach at USM. It was not sustained at LSU.

The guy who probably about to be fired for the second time in two years? Way to knock my point out the park for me.

Jimbo

Is currently floundering in the ACC with top 5 recruiting classes. Petrino just embarrassed him with a bunch of 3*s. By your standards, even Herman isn't sustaining a program right now.

don't be ignorant

And considering only that experience, a decade ago, despite context or current evidence, would be doing yourself a disservice.

well with this standard Saban has a failure as well and would be a risk...

How does that relate to the coach in question that HASNT been successful or sustained success and a program?

You're just bringing in a random annedotal point into the conversation

The quote isn't saying that EVERY coach that has success on a lower level sustains it on the next level. He's saying that EVERYcoach that has success on the next level had success on a lower level first.

Yet again ignoring that the coaches before and after him had success in that bottom dweller program you speak of

They have no answer for this. You would think by year 3 at OM with his recruits being juniors, he would at least get to .500.

And the nutt comes in a goes to the cotton bowl the next year.
