Sounds like this will happen in the next day or so. He played for Clemson and has been on the staff since Dabo took over. He was promoted when Chad Morris left.

How does Jeff Scott get a good G5 HC job before Tony Elliot? Isn't Elliott the OC who calls the plays for Clemson?

Elliott has been pretty open that he does not interview until after the season is over. Pretty tough for colleges to wait on a guy because of that. I think he does leave this season or next.

I am Wondering if Elliot will leave for a G5 HC job.

Hea called plays for a pretty prolific offense, he may be thinking P5 job.

Its remarkable how few defections Dabo has had from his staff. Chad Morris is the only one who's previously left for a HC job. Compared to a staff like Saban where he's seemingly replacing coordinators every year.

Not sure. I could see Jeff doing it either way. Jeff is known as being a great recruiter. Especially in Florida.

He was my high school football coach at Blythewood.

I hate clemson, but best of luck to him. Even if he did push people to clemson

I don’t think Morris would go to Clemson unless they lost Elliot, too many cooks in that kitchen.

This actually feels like a good hire for usf, not a ton of talent for Scott to inherit though.

Typically, it takes a long time for coordinators without HC experience to get a P5 head coach job unless they get an in-house promotion. It took Kirby eight years as DC for Saban to finally get a good Power 5 HC job. Does Elliott want to wait another three or four years for the right opportunity to open up? Being a HC at a G5 job is usually the fastest track to getting a HC job at a Power 5 school. Herman, Kiffin, Drinkwitz, and Malzahn all spent two or fewer years as a HC at a G5 school before landing a Power 5 HC job.

Good. Hope Dabo has to replace multiple coordinators for a few years.

Kirby also got a VERY good P5 job after 8 years.

Elliot is probably just going to absorb some of Scott’s salary and will be making G6 coach money.

He can wait a couple more years to see if he gets a P5 job.

What’s the deal with Venables.
If you believe what the tv announcers say, he’s fantastic.
Does he not want a HC gig? Schools not coming after him?
Just curious.

I think he loves being a DC. From what I’ve read he is being super picky.

One son on the team and another joins with the 2020 class. That helps, along with being paid a salary that is above what most G5 head coaches make/without the trouble of being the head coach. Seems like a good deal when you’re winning at the rate Clemson is.

It’s been said he does not interview well. That could definitely play a part in not having an opportunity to leave.

With his sons on the roster, I doubt Venables leaves in the next three seasons.

Thanks for the responses.
I don’t blame him for not going anywhere else.
Based on the lack of success of many OCs and DCs who were very successful as coordinators, more of them should stick to what they do best.

He seems like a lunatic in the sideline so this isn’t a surprise. Haha!
