The hire makes more sense when put into context.

Per the report from Brice, the Irish have also discussed a promotion for current defensive backs coach Mike Mickens to co-defensive coordinator alongside Ash

Chris Ash will manage the day-to-day responsibilities of the DC, while Freeman oversees the unit, and grooms Mickens.

On a side note, Mickens was a superstar CB under Brian Kelly at Cincinnati. He could have gone pro after his Junior season, but elected to return to school and elevate his draft stock.

He was projected to be a first rounder until a knee injury late in the season. He never fully recovered from the injury. He bounced around NFL practice squads for a few years, but his bum knee ended his career.

Makes more sense now with the context that it'll be a tri-coordinator setup.

Another great hire by Swag Freeman. What a great job he’s done rebuilding that program

Ash is elite. This is a great move by Swag. He has completely turned the program around. They had not been close to this level of success pre Swag

Absolutely brother! Notre Dame was in shambles and had no talent when he took over. It’s so impressive the way Swag has elevated that program. He’s so smooth and the players love him. He practically built that program from the from the ground up

Your stupidity is breathtaking. Freeman inherited a great program that was on solid footing.
