If he decides to take the UM job, then we need to do like his hero Bo did when he was AD at Michigan and the basketball coach (Frieder?)decided to take another position at Arizona State before March Madness started. He showed him the door with the response of "I want a Michigan man coaching the basketball team." Same should happen here, if Coach Miles wants to go to UM, then that is fine, no hard feelings and I understand his desire to return to mama, but I want a "LSU guy coaching the football team", meaning someone who WANTS to be here at LSU.
I think the one major caveat is the players. For instance they might want hom to Coach them at the NC if we are there. Just saying. Someone should think what they want

obviously no one knows how this will pan out at this point, all this is just speculation. Just wondering what other people think is "best" -"worst" case senario?
Posted on 11/18/07 at 7:40 pm to ctidwell
worst case, you lose soft commits, those 5 stars on the fence. remember this will go down alot earlier then the saban thing so there is time for recruits to change their mind. We lose the SECCG and either the bowl or if we win SECG we lose the MNC due to the distractions. Pellini leaves, crowton could be out. I see this as the worst case.

Best case he tells Michigan - Screw you, I am happy, I love it here and theres no way I will leave.
Worst - He announces he is leaving before the SECC and we lose it.
I HOPE FOR THE 1st
Worst - He announces he is leaving before the SECC and we lose it.
I HOPE FOR THE 1st

It's past time for the LSU faithful to get behind Coach Miles. Have we ever had a coach with a great personality and a record of 35 and 5. Not in my lifetime! Coach McClendon was a class act that was run off by fans that couldn't see the big picture. Coach Stovall was never given a chance. The "great" coaches, Arnsbarger and Saban abandoned us and probably still regret it! Let's Give Coach Miles a reason to STAY! I will understand his decision to leave for his "dream job" as I did with Coach Saban. I'd bet that in a personal 1 on 1 talk with Coach Saban, Coach Miles will realize what opportunity he has here. Baton Rouge and LSU is a great place to raise a family and enjoy life. I know that some polls rate us as a poor place to live. The "great" powers that decided this, live in such wonderful places as New York and Los Angeles. I have worked in these places. It is not a place to raise a family. Let's try to keep a great coach here instead if looking for someone else that's just looking for a stepping stone.

Who should be talking to MIles is Coach Shula. He needs to give the low down to Miles exactly how it is to coach for ones old school in this day and age

bet Mr. Dorsey didn't risk millions of dollars coming back for his senior year to have Miles' future employment destroy his dream without a say in the matter.
Yea but Miles will leave regardless of what Mr. Dorsey says or wants. I hope Miles stays though but players comments, etc will be taken with a grain of salt. I believe everyone will understand as he is just going home. If he leaves, I just hope it is a smooth process and doesnt disrupt this potential dream season.

There are LSU fans that are just fools and want Miles gone. Miles won me over in 2005. I don't think another coach in America could have done what he did under very strenuous circumstances of two hurricanes creating havoc within our state. A great coach but an even greater man. I just hope I don't have a bad Thanksgiving like I did Christmas 2004.
Friday I hope the stadium is chanting something like "Coach Miles, We love you!!" Let him know!!

If miles leaves Yall think LSU will talk to gruden
No. Gruden is the head coach of an NFL in first place in their division. He's also won a Super Bowl. Why in the hell would he take an enormous demotion? He's in the big leagues. College is the minors.

Certainly, you're correct in what you've stated and I wasn't suggesting otherwise.
My point was that Dorsey can be a bonding force among the players, not an influence on Miles.

I just hope Skip isn't sleeping this week and has already pulled out his little card with potential replacements. If somehow Spurrier were to be interested, I don't think our recruiting class would take a big hit, hell, it might even get a little better.

I love Les Miles and want him to stay. If he goes, "good luck".
There's really nothing more you can say or do.

Absolutely right on the mark. Bye, don't let the door hit you in the arse on the way out. Let him think about missing out on a chance at the NC the rest of his freakin life. Pelini is as capable of running the team for one or two games as Miles is; hell, didn't he do it at Nebraska?
Why Pelini when he is just as good as gone as Miles is. Crowton was a head coach at BYU and Tech, he could coach the remainder of the year. At least we know it will be his offensive play calling without any question.

On one hand I think most people understand going home to your dream job. If it were me and LSU was available I would drop an NFL job to take over LSU as a coach because that is where my heart will always be. But I'm a fan, and he's a coach who probably doesn't have such crazy devotion as I do.
On the other however, he really does have it made here and it's been a really long time since Les has been in An Arbor as a player or grad assist. He is on the verge of yet another dream of all coaches, to win a national championship. No matter if that is at LSU or Michigan, it doesn't come around all the time, and there is simply no guarantee that he would ever get the chance to play for one at Michigan in this day and age if he were to bolt. At LSU, with all the talent we have here, and the foundation for future success, as well as the stable of talent he has coming back next year, he could comptete for more NCs in the next few years as well if he gets this job done this year, and then builds upon that.
I really truly hope Les stays here at LSU and continues to build upon that which he has already built since he's been here. IMO, I think he would be nuts to leave, but as a fan, I do understand blind devotion too.
If Les bolts, I just hope it is well after we win the NC, and he does it in such a way that keeps LSU's best interests at heart. REGARDLESS, I think it is of the utmost importance for LSU to formulate a short list of candidates and have them on speed dial of sorts the minute his decision is made. They need to keep this under the radar of course, but we simply must have our feelers out there and test the waters to see who might be interested if it does go down, and if it does, ACT SWIFTLY and DECISIVELY so as to not mess with recruiting any more than it already will mess with it. Hopefully, a big time big name coaching guru will be that guy so that it might not only be well for LSU's future, but also interject a sense of confidence in our recruits that LSU will not be missing a beat, and is still the team to place your hat on.

Replacements?? I hope Skip is spending some time right now working out a package to keep Les in Baton Rouge. Sometimes, something you've really wanted comes along, but at the WRONG time!! Everyone keeps saying, this is the only chance Les has to go to Mich. and I just don't believe that's true. The man is on the verge of achieving the greatest goal of his entire profession now. Is going "home" worth gambling away a national championship run?? Hopefully, Skip can offer some persective ( and plenty of $$$$) on this and keep Miles where he needs to be now!! With LSU!
Then...next time "Momma" needs a coach, he can hope the cards are right for him to go then.

"Bring on Spurrier"? Why not DIG UP Bear Bryant? Neither has been successful in the SEC in decades. He was'nt good enought for LSU years ago, why now. I can't stand the grimmacing and whining . Let him melt into history in South Carolina... Let the VISOR fade!
