Then all that D talent Muschamp left at UF carried them to the SECCG.
QB issues were Muschamp's problem at UF. He had a decent one stashed away in Grier, but Grier needed rounds to gain weight.

They had an early head start over almost everyone just to end up being one of the last schools to hire someone.

Normally I try not be reactionary about these things, but I agree, they've done a terrible job with this coaching search.
They were pretty much the first job to open up, yet they had no one lined up and no contingency plan ready if Plans A or B fell apart.
Heck, Georgia cut Richt loose on Sunday and had Kirby Smart lined up a few days later. Even Virginia Tech had Fuente lined up and ready to sign immediately after Memphis had played their last game.

I'd rather have a brick than Muschamp. Hire the brick, and then hire a good OC and DC. The brick will do less damage to the program.

While I can't say I'm thrilled about the search or Muschamp, I at least understand how it played out.
First 3 targets were Herman, Fuente and Smart. Fuente didn't make it through the vetting process. Herman wasn't leaving Houston after only 1 year - though he was willing to leverage the interest into more dollars. Smart would have come to USC - if UGA hadn't fired Richt (which had to be a factor in Georgia's decision).
There wasn't much left in the next tier. We weren't going with a retread head coach again, so no Richt (and presumably no RichRod either). It was either a coordinator or a non P5 coach.
I would have liked Dino Babers. Or maybe Lincoln Reilly. Apparently Muschamp impressed more than they did. Or perhaps Champ was the only one interested in stepping into a tough rebuilding situation.
We have to hope Muschamp matured and learned, and hires a great offensive coordinator. If so, he could be a great hire who has us competitive in 2-3 years. We are where Tennessee was after Kiffin or Flirida after Meyer. Demoralized and lacking talent.

Yeah Fuente's name never even came up after the first week of the coaching search.
