Someone has a list of players Canada is actively recruiting? I've done some research and do not see his name on the list. Tee Martin is #1 on the list. Does Canada actually recruit?

I believe Canada tried to recruit Myles Brennan to Pitt.

Doesn't the OC (Canada) have a say in who the RB, WR and OL coach is ? Just saying...

That's mainly on the head coach.

Everyone on the staff besides Aranda is a recruiter first.

It's about time we get some coach first mofos in here. You hire positional coaches who are badass recruiters if need be.

Eta: Not to mention that the HC's primary contribution is supposed to be recruiting.

Isn't that why the administration hired Ed Orgeron to be the head coach? Not that coordinators can be incompetent recruiters, but that shouldn't be a concern for us when hiring them. Ed is supposed to be able to sell our product to kids.

Hiring recruiters first is how you end up with 4-5* talent that underperforms in college and then tear it up once they get to the league. Sound familiar to LSU fans?

True but head coaches are much more limited in contact than assistant coaches. Saban is a great recruiter but honestly his staff does the majority of recruiting. IMO you need a good OC recruiting be damned.

BDP was a GREAT recruiter, should he be the OC? Miles was also a GREAT recruiter, should he still be at LSU? Having great recruiters is a lot different than coaches that can develop players. Give me an OC who is an average recruiter but can develop a QB & run an innovative offense anyway.

no this is college football. recruiting is always job #1. With the right players the x and o's take care of themselves. any doubt look at bama.

Penn State won the B1G. Washington are in the playoffs. Wisconsin beat LSU despite a significant talent advantage for LSU. The only team that has enough talent to mask any coaching deficiencies is Alabama, and there is not a team out there who will recruit and develop talent as well as Alabama until Saban retires.

Watch his recruiting ability sky rocket if he becomes the OC at lsu and aranda will also it's much easier to recruit at LSU than 90% of the other colleges out there

First of all, how do you know Canada is a "bad" recruiter? Pitt fans sure think losing him will devastate their class. Nobody knows how well Canada will recruit at a big program.

Second, is hiring a better recruiter than Canada at OC (assuming that's possible) going to make us out recruit Bama?

Bama has a staff stocked full of elite recruiters. So much so that the coordinators don't have to focus on recruiting nearly as much. I was told this repeatedly over the past month from Bama fans when I suggested that Kiffin was a good recruiter.

It's important that the staff overall can recruit. It's more important that the coordinators (especially in our situation) can scheme to win games and be the difference in some of these losses we had this year.

one time a great college coach said "Isa bes a gret couch causa if youa be a takne mines and eyes be a tekn yurns Isa stil a bes a wernin"(if we switch players I will still win) . That coach was Bear Bryant. Do you really think that applies to Saben?

Talent is necessary, but if you can at least recruit top 10-15 classes and coach them in a way that maximizes their talent, you'll be right there in the mix every year.
