Can Jimbo even evaluate quarterbacks anymore?

It's the most important position on the field yet Jimbo, an alleged quarterback guru, hasn't signed and developed an above average quarterback since 2012.
**2013**
John Franklin III
Transferred to East Mississippi Community College, then to Auburn, then to Florida Atlantic where he played receiver. Made the NFL as a defensive back.
Appeared on Last Chance U
**2014**
JJ Cosentino
Left the team after being the third string quarterback for most of his four years with the program
**2015**
Deondre Francois
Kicked off team due to a domestic dispute then transferred to Hampton
DeAndre Johnson
Kicked off team after punching a woman at a bar, then transferred to East Mississippi Community College, then to Florida Atlantic, and finally to Texas Southern
Appeared on Last Chance U
**2016**
Malik Henry
Kicked off team due to rule violations, transferred to Independence Community College but was also kicked off that team. Walked on at Nevada but ultimately left the program.
Appeared on Last Chance U
**2017**
James Blackman
Transferred to Arkansas State
Bailey Hockman
Transferred to North Carolina State, then to Middle Tennessee State. Now retired.
**2018**
James Foster
Transferred to Charlotte
**2019**
Zach Calzada
Lost the starting job at Texas A&M to Haynes King but took over after King's injury. Has been average.
**2020**
Haynes King
Won the starting job at Texas A&M after Kellen Mond left for the NFL draft. Threw 2 touchdowns and 3 interceptions against Kent State before being injured against Colorado in his second start.
**2021**
Eli Stowers
Already moved to tight end.

I’m going to respond with the exact same post the last time you posted this same list that you seem so proud of, and you never responded to.
quote:
You have posted this same list on several boards now like it’s irrefutable proof he’s a bad qb evaluator/developer.
First, he got Mond who A&M fans will tell you was never that great of a qb to improve his completion percentage ever single year and get drafted in the 3rd round last year.
Second, how many rosters have multiple studs at QB and always bring in a ringer every year? None. In today’s world with the transfer portal you pretty much have one good qb and that’s it, if the other guy is good he isn’t riding the bench. So when you have a good starter for 2-4 years it’s not imperative you bring in the next Heisman winner every recruiting class, he just had Mond for 3 seasons. For better for worse he stuck with him and it did end up paying off in a NY6 bowl win.
Next, you always seem to leave off the fact we’ve got a high 4 star/low 5 star QB committed for the 2022 class that many people think will challenge for the starting spot in a year.
Finally, Calzada looked like total crap in his first game action and has grown a lot in just a handful of games under his coaching. Maybe you dock jimbo for not having him better prepared, maybe we credit him for getting him in the right places to succeed and look like a decent D1 QB after a few games when he looked like a high school kid in the Colorado game.
Basically your “proof” that he’s a bad QB coach/developer is a bad take. But y’all keep convincing yourself a you don’t want one of 5 active head coaches with national championship.

Yeah, about that...

Why do Aggies think they have something in Jimbo?
Year 1 - 4 losses
Year 2 - 5 losses
Year 3 - 1 loss
Year 4 - 2 losses and counting
Aggies think they have gold in Jimbo and I just don’t get it. Are the expectations that low there?

It's interesting how everyone always leaves out the fact that Mond was a very highly rated quarterback prospect (higher ranked than anyone Aggie currently has).
You all say he was "bad," despite only seeing him for only a portion of his true freshman year before Jimbo took over.

Commits don't have anything to do with this thread, Jimbo has had several highly ranked busts since 2012.

This thread is simply asking if he can evaluate quarterbacks anymore and presenting all of his quarterback signees since 2012.

Oh Mond got a nice boost because he was at IMG and played with great people around him. Look at his stats from year to year and how he grew and tell me he wasn’t just an average qb to start. I’d give Jimbo credit for realizing what he had to work with as there were other options on the roster (like Starkel who originally was the starter and transferred out), but Jimbo didn’t recruit him so I guess let’s throw that one out.
I noticed you skip over my statement about the portal and roster management. Are coaches expected to sign a 5 star game changer QB every single class or not?
And how is a current commit not relevant to a thread about evaluating QBs? May not know if he’s a success or bust for awhile but seems like an awful lot of other coaches are after him as well.
You write off Haynes King after one game like Payton Manning, Tom Brady, or even the great LSU messiah Joe Burrow never had a bad game or two in their careers. For all we saw in spring game and practice, there was a reason he was starting over calzada who seems to be a serviceable backup qb now that we need him. Just took a few games to hit his stride.

Did IMG propel him into the second round of the NFL draft?

Just beat bama! Just signed number 1 Player in America

He made Mond a 3rd round QB. That's hist most recent project and a minor miracle.

No, just his star ranking coming out of high school.

He definitely grew but players are expected to grow as they mature.
Your argument is basically, "He looked like arse as a true freshman and Jimbo made him better."
Perhaps, but true freshmen usually look like arse when thrown into the fire.
I'd argue that Jimbo actually handcuffed Mond as a college quarterback by constantly asking him to be a drop back passer when that wasn't Mond's strength.

You answered your own question.

I'm just pointing out that the guy went from producing JaMarcus Russell, Christian Ponder, EJ Manuel, and Jameis Winston in a short period of time to zilch lately.

Didn't write him off but we have very limited information on him.

247 Sports predicted Mond to be a mid round selection before he ever played a college snap.
So basically, he did exactly what was expected of him.
It isn't as if Jimbo made some 2 star guy an NFL draft pick, Mond was highly regarded as a prospect.

And he ignored crimes committed by J Winston while he was at FSU.

Fair question, first season he lost 1 to Miss St which he should not have, but likewise they should NOT have won our marathon 7 OT game.
His 5 loss season saw them lose to Clemson, AUB, UGA, Bama and LSU. All top-ten teams. Three of those teams were ranked #1 when they played them.
This recruiting class, and with 247 projections puts him easily in the top 5...likely top 3-4 when it is done.
They are moving on the right trajectory as a program. Can't argue otherwise.
Overall, what's not to like? There are other not as proven choices out there, named on this board. Will be interesting to see how it unfolds. I'll take Jimbo, and some of those recruits with him.

Jimbo got a kid that had never seen SEC play ready in 2 weeks, and was able to knock off the reigning champ. How dumb is this post?

They are obsessed with the money thing. They think if they pay more for something, it must be better.

Because they have not taken a single snap in college you dipshit. Who knows if they will be good or bad. Therefore you can’t include them.
I see an A&M education isn’t worth a damn thing obviously.

I noticed you weren't actually able to point out anything in the post that isn't true.

The same “reigning champ” that probably should have lost to a very bad LSU team this past weekend? Color me unimpressed.
