Well first of all, he is undoubtedly an elite recruiter. Just look at the list of his all time players on 247 and his haul is very impressive. Contrast that with Sullivan, who does not recruit at all.

Second, he has had recent success with coaching WRs. Let's just be honest, our WRs were underwhelming this past season, and a large part of that has to rest on the shoulders of Sullivan.

I don't see any drawbacks to the hire, as WR coach of course. I base that primarily on his value as a recruiter. We need to be what we are, and that's a recruiting staff. We need to quit thinking we're going to hire a staff that's going to be innovative in terms of strategy. It's just not going to happen. Might as well get an all-star cast and acquire as much of the talent as we can, at any cost.

Yeah it's cool. The man's recruiting haul is what sold me.

If we're going to have a staff that's going to be full of recruiters, to the detriment of any type of coach that would offer innovation in terms of strategy, might as well go all the way IMO. That needs to be our identity, the staff that's a recruiting Voltron so to speak.

So all recruiting with little coaching? Sounds awesome.
It would be a decent strategy if we werent already pulling in top 10 classes most every year for the last 15 years. The recruiting is already good and has been thru the last 4 lsu head coaches. Not alot of improvement on that front to make. We need more strategists like aranda.

I think there's definitely been room for improvement in recruiting. LSU has been good but not elite between missing on certain Louisiana recruits and having little impact in national recruiting. When you're missing on great talent in your own state, there's room to improve.

I'm not sure how good Martin is, but USC has put some pretty impressive receivers in the NFL recently.

We're talking about replacing the WR coach, are we not? Why are you bringing up linemen?

He’s also one of the best WR coaches in college football. Not just a plus in recruiting but also a very good at actually coaching the position

In all fairness to this and the previous coaching staff, having a former national championship winning LSU coach at Alabama has certainly not helped with that. Saban is still extremely respected by the local coaches. I seriously doubt we would have missed on many if any of those in state guys if anyone else was at Alabama.

I’d take him in second over Ensminger.

Very unconventional I admit, but these are times that call for creative thinking.

You aren't going to overtake Bama by not recruiting as well as them as well as not coaching as well. This staff needs to push all of their chips to one area, and that's recruiting IMO.

Comparing Dabos years before his title with O is factually better but I ask, what's Dabos record vs Saban? He wouldn't have all those 1st place finishes if he were coaching in the same division as Saban. He's a better coach no question but the question posed was what did he win before the title. In the SEC he'd have won once, maybe, and fans would be bitching just like we do with O.

No, because Dabo didn’t have a well documented history of abject failure as a head coach, like O did when he was hired.

Dabo was well on his way to being a failure before he hired Chad Morris and fired Kevin Steele.
