Rumors are that the Glazers are high on Chip Kelley. That would be a disaster hire.

Well he had a 4-win improvement with a rookie quarterback which is why I'm surprised. I read that the Dolphins were interested in Koetter and the Bucs didn't want to lose him so that's why they made the move.

I love it that they fired Lovie. Because I hate the Bucs.

Edit: Lovie, if you read this, no offense.

I have little doubt that this was about keeping Koetter.

If that's the case, keeping Koetter over Lovie is a no-brainer.

What!!??

Makes ZERO sense.

The NFL is a joke regarding coaching tenure.

You have to win immediately or you are gone.

With Lovie Smith fired I would expect Dirk Koetter to be named head coach within the week. They still will interview a few other candidates.

OVIE SMITH LEARNED OF FIRING VIA PHONE
The newly fired Buccaneers coach learned of his fate via a phone conversation, a source told ESPN's Vaughn McClure. "You don't hire a coach over the phone, so why would you fire him over the phone?" the source said. Bucs OC Dirk Koetter is a candidate for the job opening, a league source told the Tampa Tribune.

Please explain how Lovie Smith is more valuable to the franchise that Dirk Koetter.

People that didn't watch the Bucs think this. Lovie's defense is antiquated.

What a horrible move.. When they hired him, Lovie stated this wasn't an easy fix and that seems indicative of the moves they've made to turn this team around for the long haul..

His track record for developing young QBs is very good.

Continuity on offense is a much bigger commodity for this team.

All of the eggs have been placed in the Jameis basket. The franchise revolves around his success.

Where?

He had a massively run oriented offense at Jacksonville with David Garrard (Mike Shula was the QB coach btw) and a veteran Matt Ryan in Atlanta.
