Buccaneers bracing for OC Liam Coen to be offered Jaguars job

Bucs head coach Todd Bowles has had Byron Leftwich, Canales, and Coen as his offensive coordinators in his three seasons at the helm.

If your OC is getting plucked every season, then you’ve got good problems on your hands. That means your offense is doing well and the players are adaptable to new systems.
Where teams frick up is when they get tired of trying to make these replacements so they start looking for intentionally worse candidates that have less of a chance to move. They’ll go find a coach who retired 10 years ago, or a guy whose been fired 10 times just so they can have some stability

The thing I like most about Coen is just how much he’s improved the efficiency of their running game. They also continued to produce pretty well even when Evans and Godwin went out at different extended periods. Apparently a great teacher too. Uses a ton of motion where the jags were dead last in the nfl last season.
He apparently blew them away at the interview which could just be lip service. My completely unsupported theory is there seems to but a bit more baw in him than Johnson even if he may not be on that same phenom level of supposed play calling wizardry.
Hope it works out.
If nothing else it should show if Lawrence can be salvaged from these two shitty regimes or he’s just not the guy.

Yep. Much prefer this to a retread.

T Law hasn’t improved since he was a Freshmen in college
He will always have flashes due to raw talent, but he lacks intangibles and consistency

Pretty casual response. But I get that most don’t watch the jaguars.

If tweet fails to load, click here. Interesting. Wonder if he got tired of waiting on an answer or got told he didn’t make the cut.
Robert Saleh time?

Great news have Baker in a keeper league

He was scheduled for an interview. I’d lean more towards the former. Maybe they want to interview Brady and that can’t happen for another 5-6 days. With all the media jumping on it yesterday evening maybe he didn’t want to wait that long.

Rather Joe Brady than Saleh. In the end, who knows if it is Baalke or Khan keeping these candidates away, or both

Trent Baalke fired wow
Guess we can put things together now

Really wonder 1) what kind of feedback Khan was getting from coaches throughout the NFL about who was interested if Baalke wasn’t there because on paper at least there are definitely things to like about the job compared to a lot of spots. 2) was Khan maybe unsure of Baalke and was using the process to this point to see if he should can him or not.
Khan is obviously a non football guy/non meddling owner who trusts his guys to a fault. He also gives them plenty of resources. I’d imagine that’s appealing he can actually get the right guy in.

When they announced Baalke wasn’t getting fired along with Peterson, there were a lot of reports that people around the league were stunned and none of the top candidates would be going there if Baalke was lurking around. Haven’t seen much to dispel that outside of getting a virtual interview with Ben Johnson.
So sounds like he already had the feedback available to him if he sought it out but either didn’t look for it or ignored it

This seems hard to believe given two weeks ago he said firing Baalke along with Peterson would be “suicide”
The tea leaves seem pretty clear on this one. He wanted Baalke back and thought one of his top candidates wouldn’t mind. Then after multiple of those candidates either pulling out or getting another job, he realized he just isn’t going to attract what he wants with Baalke lurking around

All of that is appealing now - but with Baalke in place he was a buffer between you and ownership and clearly has ownerships favor, so you’re setting yourself up to get fired with him around when things go south and there’s a lot of history to back that up.
Give him credit for not falling for sunken cost fallacy here but that decision likely cost him a chance at the guys he was really after

That’s what I’m saying. I think there will be a lot of interest in the GM job. If it’s actually an open process and there isn’t a clear guy they’re going to go after.

He also said he was open to a reorganization/change on Tuesday of that week. I wonder if Saleh is actually his guy and Saleh has someone he wants. There has been more Saleh juice than any candidate consistently over the last 7 days. Johnson was mentioned in the “are the jaguars actually the best roster for Johnson” vein and last night Coen news went big but Saleh’s name has consistently been mentioned on every jags podcast, and has an article or two a day written about him.

Yeah I didn’t think Saleh would get a job this cycle and would pull a Vrabel but he’s just lingered and lingered so feels like that would be who they end up with unless it’s a complete out of left pick or they fell in love with Joe Brady recently
