Go for broke w/ those names mentioned...unless they all turned them down without publicly becoming "candidates".
It is hard to separate a highly paid successful coach at a top ranked program...unless he is moving to the NFL.

You may right, but that website is for Irish related news (not the ND Irish, but the Irish folk and Ireland related news in general).

ND will never again be successful in terms of competeing for a NC until they lower their academic standards. They simply cant compete for the athletes in recruiting that they need to be successful on that level. But as long as they pay a HC top 5 money coaches will continue to be stubborn and think "I can be the guy that turns Notre Dame around", they are a lost cause!

Kelly being a "roll of the dice" or "exposed" just shows how little some of you know about anything that doesn't have to do with LSU.
I've been to several Cincy games this year and watched Kelly - also have been to hear him speak. He's a hell of a coach and motivator. Always where he needs to be and seems to be on top of things during the entire game (you'll never see him pull something as stupid as what we saw from Miles and his staff in the Ole Miss game). The job he's done with the limited talent he had at Cincinnati just makes you wonder what he could accomplish at a school like Notre Dame with a few years of recruiting. The Irish would be wise to scoop him up. Wish LSU had him.

Kelly has taken a team to a BCS game and if not for this he probably would have an undefeated season in a the 3rd or 4th best conference in NCAA this year. What more can you want?

This applies to hundreds of coaches across the country be it NFL, college, or high school. That doesn't mean all of those coaches will make the Notre Dame faithful forget about the shitty decisions made in recent years.

For all your vast football knowledge, it seems you would know that Notre Dame isn't an easy place to recruit (at least with the current standards required).
I stand by my statement that Notre Dame would be best served opening up the checkbook for a coach that has sustained success at the highest level in college football. Unfortunately, Kelly doesn't meet that definition.
That doesn't mean he wouldn't ultimately be a good hire, but I'll be surprised if they go that route.

With ND's money and resources, a Kelly-type coach would win quickly there. There is talent on offense and it only takes 9 wins to get into a BCS as ND. Not to mention, with the ability for a wide open (no conference restrictions) schedule, the new ND coach holds all the cards.
ND knows they have to win quickly. Isn't their NBC contract up in 2011?
