much of the success - just like Clark Lea - is due to their QB.

Haynes King isn't going to be there forever.

I think people considered it a monumental task to shift from the gimmick O that GaTech was to a modern offense

paul johnson ran the gimmick O, whihc means his predecessor Geoff Collins had the task of undoing all that and putting in a normal offense. So yeah that was a major hurdle, but also collins just sucked indescribably bad.

Key deserves credit for improving them from the shitpile that was the collins-era, but it had nothing to do with totally overhauling the offense.

Key has definitely done a good job, but that's all relative.

Tech plays in a weak conference and Key has only had one good year (this year).

I didn't want to be the first to say it since I would be accused of only hating on him because I'm a UGA fan. But this is exactly correct. Pepole are flabbergasted that lowly ga tech is undefeated, but put another way it's just as accurate to say "they beat clemson this year". That same clemson mind you that currently has a losing record.

Their 2nd best win this year is, umm...duke? If not duke perhaps it's Syracuse. That's the kind of resume we're talking about here. The FACT is that the only team that tech will play all year in 12 games that registers as anything more than "kind of ok, I guess" is UGA in game 12. It's entirely possible, if not likely, that tech will go 11-1 this year and be ranked in the top 7 while being nothing more than "pretty good" and going winless against the only actually good teams on their schedule.

The idiots on this board would find a reason to reject Jesus Christ as head coach.
Yeshua doesn't give a frick about College Football and would not be a good fit at the ULSU.

I've got nothing against the flexbone. Just that the recruiting strategy going from Flexbone to spread took some significant changes over multiple years.
But Geoff Collins replaced Paul Johnson and changed the offensive scheme away from the flex bone. So I don't think Key had to make that change at GT.

Yep. The point is that there is more to being an up-and-coming coach than record.

Geoff Collins may have been the worst coach I've ever seen at a D1 program

I hope the fact that someone here downvoted this is not indicative of the quality of poster in this thread.

Y'all don't need Key, though, he is terrible. Go somewhere else.

So basically like all the years uga skated through a bad SEC east and avoided playing Alabama and LSU in the regular season.

Agreed.

And I certainly don't love the offenses that he's had there. You'll never win a championship with that offense.

Look at Deion, as an example. Did pretty well with Shedeur and Hunter, but with them gone, the ship is sinking fast.

All you have to do to understand the slow start is compare the type offense they ran prior to Key to what it looks like now. Opposite ends of offensive philosophy.
