If Auburn wins, he will be offered on the spot. If not, they'll likely have to go the G5/coordinator route like they've done the last three coaching cycles.

Reports of Durkin's days as Maryland's former head coach sounded like someone who wanted to bring back the methods of Texas A&M's staff in the days of the Junction Boys.

He would. I would think he's front runner.

He just signed a new deal. He's got a perfect fit at SMU and candidly as an Auburn fan who likes Rhett I don't want him to mess it up by coming to Auburn and I don't want him to fail here. Not to say he would, just that there is no reason to leave Highland Park, Texas making 10m/year with reasonable expectations for a roll of the dice that might not serve either side.

As for Durkin, I'm fine with him being the hire. I don't know that he has to win the IB for serious consideration, either.

Basically, Durkin has no shot.
