It's not hard to understand. Tucker hasn't proven enough to get a call from LSU. Aranda hasn't for that matter either. If we're going to pick one, it's going to be Aranda because we know what he's capable of doing as a coach here. Anyone can see this except a shallow gene pool gump fan.

Tucker and Aranda's resumes aren't equivalent. Not even close to being equivalent. Comparing a guy who was a 2 time NFL coordinator and NFL interim head coach to a guy who was a top college football DC and was on a national championship staff is no comparison to anyone with half a brain.

Uh..because Tucker sucks! All he has is he coached under Saban!

Aranda is the smartest coach I have ever seen

I am not sure what argument you are trying to make here, but I actually prefer the college DC who made his name on his own. A guy who was never fired for fielding poor defenses. I like Aranda's overall trajectory.

Aranda at Utah freaking State

quote:

In 2012, Aranda was the defensive coordinator for one year for the Utah State Aggies under Gary Andersen. That same year he was a nominee for the Broyles Award as the Aggies defense finished in the top 15 of all FBS schools in all four major defensive categories; seventh in scoring defense (15.4 points per game), 13th in rushing defense (113.8 yards per game), eighth in pass-efficiency defense (14 interceptions, 12 touchdowns, 54.1% completion rate, 5.7 yards per attempt) and 14th in total defense (322.1 ypg).

Wisconsin

quote:

His first year as defensive coordinator the Badgers defense ranked in the top 20 in all four major defensive categories; scoring defense (6th), total defense (7th), rushing defense (5th) and passing defense (17th).[16]

quote:

Over Aranda's three-year span as defensive coordinator at Wisconsin his defense ranked first nationally in total defense, second in scoring defense, third in pass defense and fourth in run defense.[23] His final season with the Badgers his defense came in first in scoring defense, allowing just 13.1 points per game.[24]

Aranda is so superior to Tucker as a defensive coordinator and play caller it’s not even in the same realm. You get Aranda and all you’d need is a top OC like Grimes who is with him now or somebody like Tom Herman and we’d be a perennial contender every year. Another plus with Aranda would be continuity with the staff. He’s worked with guys like Raymond, Mickey Joseph, the best recruiters and position coaches on our staff and knows how vital they are. I’d imagine you get Aranda and Ika (who left LSU after scheme change to go be with Aranda at Baylor) could potentially come with him. Imagine a front 4 in Aranda defense of Smith, Ika, Roy, and Ojulari.

I don't think a ALABAMA fan has LSU best interest at heart .

I feel like UGA under Tucker was still a product of Kirby.
I've realized that Bama's dominant defense was a product of Kirby not Saban.

Bama fans are generally obsessed with LSU. 2019 was especially tough on the gumps.

Take a look at the post history for Sid Walker, Cajunbama, and Tuscaloosa just to name a few.

Aranda's defensive schemes are better suited against the modern spread schemes. Tucker's defense is getting shreaded at Michigan State. Aranda has worked here and knows the ins and outs. Aranda appears to have little to no ego. He will not put his fingers into the offense. We would know what we are getting with Aranda, Tucker we have no clue.

I have zero concerns over Aranda being an amazing coach.

My concern with him is whether or not he has enough of a personality to be successful in recruiting. That is a special talent, I don’t know the guy, and I’ve never seen him be very dynamic in a press conference. He may be a total salesman on recruiting visits.

Tucker - I have zero doubt he would kill recruiting. And his players would run through a wall for him. But I don’t think he has the genius level game planning skills Aranda does.

Simply not true. Talent pool and player development are on a totally different curve. Some coaches are better suited for college than pro, and vice versa. At the end of the day you are judged by the product you put on the field.

As to Kirby’s defenses at Alabama, much of the sentiment when he went to UGA was it was ALL Saban and he would flame out at UGA moving directly to Head Coach from coordinator.
