I think it's a solid hire for the Hogs.
Posted on 12/4/12 at 2:33 pm to Hubbhogg
I hope you like to run the ball because your QB play will be putrid
All in all though, solid hire for Hogs.
You win with a solid ground game and defense and you will definitely improve your running game which will keep you in games with teams like Bama and LSU.

Meh, we'll see. I'm sure as he has access to the faster receivers that most SEC teams have he will adjust his offense to suit them.

Solid, but not exciting hire for the hogs. I expected more with a year long head start, BUT at least its better than the hire Auburn made.

Arkansas is quickly mobilizing to see what ACC team is developing a QB to transfer and help Bielema.

Why? Because some of our fans were screaming Gruden, Carroll, etc etc?
We didn't need an exciting hire. We needed a guy who could come in and do work.
We got our guy
I don't know why some Hog fans are unhappy. Didn't yall get enough excitement last April?

And Bielema has how many national championships? BCSNCG appearances?
These are silly questions. How many major bowls or titles had Les won prior to getting an SEC job? What about Saban while he was at Michigan State? Did he ever get to the Rose Bowl while he was there?
Wisconsin is in a state with zero talent.
It's not a flashy hire. But it's solid.

Most of the Arkansas fans that post here thought that those names or their equivalent would be hired. Google site:tigerdroppings.com "destination job" for more information.

I understand what fans were posting. I also understand that there is a reason fans don't run the athletic department......
I doubt Jeff Long was telling anyone he was gonna hire Gruden or Carroll.

Arkansas fans that post here are largely morons. Objectively though, this looks like Kirk Ferentz wasn't available. The B1G flavor hired a year too late. Which ACC developed QB are you guys going to bring in? Five years of Scott Tolzien isn't going to get it done with that o-line.

Being objective...
Brett Bielema
Pros
- 68-24 HC record
- 4 10+ win seasons
- 3 straight BCS Bowls*
- Fields competitive team
- Above .500+ conference (sans 2008)
- Barry Alvarez disciple
Cons
- In 7 years, never recruited a class ranked higher than #34 (Rivals)
- Average recruiting class - #48
- Two recruiting classes ranked #50 or worse. (56, 87)
- 2-4 Bowl Record
- 0-2 in BCS Bowls
- 8-5 in a down B1G 10 Year
- Publicly complained about unfair recruiting
- In BCS due to other team's ineligibility*
- Prone to letdowns (26-21 Northern Iowa; 16-14 Utah State)
Meh. Has potential, but there are some serious questions marks. Not a knockout by any means, but atleast he is better than John L.

Teams can mask talent issues with the spread offense. You can't with the pro style offense
You can't mask a shitty defense with anything
You're fricked
and you guys mask your dumbass coach with a talent pool like no other, stfu

Simmer down
Maybe your next head coach hire will be a success

Looks good on paper.

How so? You have to be able to recruit elite RBs and an elite pass blocking AND run blocking o line to run the pro style effectively..
Why do you think so few teams run it?
Such a dumb statement. You have to execute to run a system. Outside of that, the personnel evens out. It's like saying you have to recruit elite WRs to run a spread.
There's more than enough OL in the state of Texas to supply 15 Universities. And what makes you think he won't still go up to the Midwest and get the cream of their crop with the reputation he has up there?
I don't love the hire, but this disaster mentality of the Hogs is moronic. Everyone in the SEC has been O-facing themselves at the style guys like Saban and Miles have been using to win recently. Then you get pissed when your AD hires someone who runs a similar system?

we actually have a couple decent qbs on campus.

Biggest concern no matter who we would have hired.

He must "coach em up" pretty well. seems to get the most out of the talent.
Everyone needs to give him a chance.
