Teams can mask talent issues with the spread offense. You can't with the pro style offense

You can't mask a shitty defense with anything

You're fricked

This offense plays right into Miles' hands. It's exactly what Miles wanted.

You have to be able to recruit elite RBs and an elite pass blocking AND run blocking o line to run the pro style effectively..

they've got a great history of recruiting RBs, especially in the last 10 years or so... but yeah, where's the line?

There are only 2 UA grad OL in the NFL.. and neither are starters.

One of them has never played in a game.

Petrino ran a prostyle offense and was successful here.

How do you not understand that Arkansas needed to hire a spread offense coach with success and that had great success in recruiting?

You won't be able to recruit as it is with your new hire, let alone to run his offense

Good luck

Look, a bunch of idiotic LSU fans trying to predict the future. Let's give the guy a few seasons. Like most others, this hire could go either way

What makes you think he will?

Will Alabama and LSU go on a decline similar to Michigan and tOSU? If not, he won't have success

He can't recruit
He coaches an offense that requires you to be elite in recruiting

He's a good coach, he'll at least have them competing every year..could have done worse imo. Guy has an eye for what works in his offense so he'll find guys.

It'll be tough though, with all the freaks in the SEC West that Bama, LSU and A&M are locking down.

So.. A coach who can't recruit..and has a pro offense is going to get things going at Arkansas?

Can't recruit? How stupid. Go look at Miles recruting rankings when he was at OSU. Of course his recruiting will improve once in the SEC.

quote:

Sorry, but you need a spread offense to be able to compete if you're not LSU/bama/UGA/UF/Auburn

Wrong, in fact to win the SEC you better be able to win that 10-3 game when you have to, because the defenses as a whole are too good and you aren't going to outscore people willy nilly.

quote:

Add to the fact that his only success has been during the big10s worst run in half a century?

Oh, well this argument makes sense b/c of course a coach can completely control how good a conference is when he's coaching...............

This is a solid hire. The kind of hire that tells people Arkansas is serious about competing at the top, the kind of hire that says we intend to beat the best. It is NOT the kind of hire that says "hey we're more concerned with hiring the flashy name or having 10K yards passing then we are actually winning."

Solid coach with ZERO baggage. EXACTLY what we needed after the Bobby Petrino experiment.

You may not take him seriously, but I'll guarantee you Saban, Miles, Spurrier, etc etc are.

Based on his tenure at Wisconsin?

You're going to have those few seasons where you have a great group of upper classmen that take you to higher levels..that's what he has had the precious 2 years.

Kentucky had that great upperclassmen group

Ole miss had it
