Employer rule #1: never fire someone unless you have already figured out their replacement. this also applies to girlfriends
of course, the girlfriend might be leaving you and possibly because you had her replacement lined up and she caught you. women are like that.

Tennessee DC Justin Wilcox apparently a person of interest here.

Does this mean he's out of a job altogether?

Melt down by the boosters. The big money guys dont want him...that's why it was pulled. The ASU football boards have been going nuts since he was first mentioned as a possibilty. They are tired of all offense no defense coaches.
This.

If A&M pulls that stunt with Sumlin it will set us back another 5 years. really, just let the admin do their job and let the rest fall as they may.

Who knows...
Love, the AD, obviously has very little say in this - and I find that kind of embarrassing for her.
I would also think that we'll be looking for a new AD shortly.
The univ. pres. sent out a message a couple of days ago detailing what they were looking for in a new coach. And, quite honestly, JJ was not what he described.
I expect it to be a young, relatively well-known current HC, or a very well known OC. I would imagine that the committee will place a caveat on a coordinator taking the job, and that would be that he will have to get a strong DC in here.
I like the idea of Helfrich at OR...so long as he brings in a solid OC.

i would hope so.
fact is, in the world of division 1 athletics, its a football world first. all AD's should understand this and the university should have the good sense to find AD's with the capability of maintaining the football program first and foremost. there are VERY few exceptions to this.

If ASU got their shite together they could run wild. Best USC a couple of times, go big in OOC and get some upsets and they could set up a NC contender yearly. The time is now with USC in somewhat of a vulnerable position.
I would much rather see ASU as the western contender than anybody else.

How about Paul Chryst?
Has conference experience, coaching at Oregon State in 2003 and 2004.

you know...Im at the point where I dont care who they hire...just hire someone.
That being said...when they dumped koetter it was 2 weeks before a new HC was named...Snyder I think it was 17 or 18 days. I dont get the rush to hire a new HC given that you need to make the right choice. Must be the internet generation or something.

Tennessee's DC Justin Wilcox appears to be a candidate.

quote:True. They had a very talented squad this last season, but no discipline whatsoever. Burfict was a walking microcosm of the team itself.

Arizona produces some great instate talent too, so its not like the well is dry; California is right next door and Texas isn't too far away either.
It's a good gig, deserves a good coach.

I think ASU is better off without either Jones or Sumlin. The gimmick offenses only get you as far the trigger man and if there is no trigger man, you are dead in the water.

LOL at ASU if they'd rather have Justin Wilcox than June Jones
