The source said Arizona State's explanation was that "it took too long" and the school president was moving on.

"We had accepted the deal," the source said. "I've never seen anything like this."

One source said negative reaction from fans and boosters to the selection of Jones prompted the reversal. Arizona State has now negotiated with and ended negotiations with two candidates, including Houston's Kevin Sumlin.

Soooo, I guess ASU just doesn't want a coach? Who is going to want to talk to them now, especially when you might get your contract nullified before you can even say yes to the job.

I think Jones turned them down like Sumlin did.

SMU has I think 5 alumni that are billionaires. Not many can go toe to toe with SMU with money.

Good question. He would have been a spectacular hire.

this sounds more to me like they got rejected and are trying to somehow save face.

That's why he told his staff this morning that he was going to ASU?

Arizona State is really fricking this up. I cannot believe the stupidity of some of these people in such high ranking positions.

Employer rule #1: never fire someone unless you have already figured out their replacement. this also applies to girlfriends

Melt down by the boosters. The big money guys dont want him...that's why it was pulled. The ASU football boards have been going nuts since he was first mentioned as a possibilty. They are tired of all offense no defense coaches.

My GF's usually figured out she had a replacement before the firing, and usually ended up resigning first. Which was good cause I didn't have to pay any unemployment benefits to them.

Willy Robinson and Ted Roof are available.

But seriously. Do you guys consider Kirby Smart, Diaz from TX? Or a HC with a defensive philosophy? Whatever you guys do, don't hire Ron Zook. He's like the Norv Turner of CFB.
