it's likely because he sees more support and upside in a bigger, wealthier program

a bigger, wealthier state.

I also don't think it would be surprising if he chose LSU, on the basis that LSU can provide most of what UF
I know I'm a homer. I know I'm biased. I think if you took a poll of 100 CFB fans, excluding LSU and UF fans of course, 95 of them would say LSU is the bigger and better program.

I know this is a LSU board filled w mostly LSU fans, but I'm one of the few LSU fans who thinks Lane would pick Florida over LSU...if he leaves Ole Miss. I think Lane takes a huge pay raise and stays at Ole Miss though.

Sigh. I probably can't convince you that a much larger school with a much larger donor base with far more capital available in a state with multiples in untapped capital vs. Louisiana/LSU has more upside and resources to exploit.
But alas, it does. And I would certainly argue it matters.

I don't think this is true. I think LSU is the better operating program and is the better job for someone who wants to come and try and complete their legacy by winning a title in the near term.
I think the idea of LSU being the better job defies the average CFB's fan's expectations and is a diehard CFB fan (ie, us) and media narrative. I think it's true, at least for now, but I think it's a bit of an inside baseball thing unless you poll SEC fans on message boards or CFB writers.
Most "casuals" would probably assume the richer school in the richer, bigger state is the better job, but maybe I underestimate them.

.
K. He will just be another one you guys fire in 4 years with nothing to show for it.
Member when Muschamp was going to dominate.
Member when Dan Merlins was supposed to “own the SEC”
Member when Sunbelt Billy was going to win championships at Florida.

I was just thinking it sounds like AI corporate gobbledygook. It's almost satire to me.

everything is trending in a positive direction for UF and it doesn’t feel like guesswork or message board noise. The alignment, timing, and modeling are all moving in sync, and everyone involved seems to be acting like this is a structured process rather than a reaction to what’s happening on the field.
Holy buzzwords that don’t mean shite. Timing aligning? How is the time aligning any different for Florida and Kiffin compared to LSU and Kiffin? Time tables are exact same regardless. And there’s no good alignment, you have to wait until Ole Miss is done which who knows when that’ll be. All those buzzwords said absolutely nothing.
I don’t see him choosing Florida over LSU. It’s either Ole Miss or LSU now for Lane.

People have said this every time his name is mentioned the last 5 years.
His name hasn’t been mentioned for 5 years. Really just this year and last as there was some consistency that needed to be seen from him. There were no big time SEC programs that tried to get him last year. Bama didn’t consider him early 2024. At that point, he was not established enough and questionable history in TTown.
This is really first time Ole Miss will have to deal with programs bigger than them wanting Kiffin. Because he has established a regular season 9, 10 win every season.
There has been no increasing ceiling. He plateaued at 10-2/10-3 established 2nd season, and still shows that he can’t beat the Bama, UGAs with his best ceiling and Bama, UGA not being ultra dominant this year. Hence, the whole reason that some might think he leaves.

After he publicly said that he doesn't want to coach in the SEC, yea

LSU entering the picture adds a small variable, but it’s manageable. They are under a directive from way above to go short-term, high-AAV this cycle, which limits total exposure but also caps security for any incoming coach.
So we're going to pay someone 15m a year for 4 years...
Hmmmm

Florida has more talent on campus than LSU. Easier to win immediately
I don't agree with this. They are very close. LSU is a talented roster and has a well-built NIL/front office to handle the roster in perpetuity. You can win immediately at LSU if roster doesn't have big turnover.

I agree he stays at Ole Miss and if he did leave, he'd pick Florida. But just because he has much deeper connections to that state (also no state income tax is lagniappe), idolized Spurrier, wife from there, etc. The jobs are very similar otherwise and LSU has won a title with 3 out of last 4 coaches.

I think a lot of the Kiffin love is because he lost all of the mercenaries on defense and Dart from last years team and is still going to make the playoffs. He retooled them completely and is back in the driver's seat. He's also doing it with the #2 QB to start the season, from a tiny program, that he has playing at a very high level.

His father-in-law was a QB for Florida. He and his wife have supposedly reconciled. I don’t know that it’s that crazy to think he would pick Florida.
