A large number of people here are opposed to even considering the coach with this record…

12-2
12-2
12-2
9-2
10-2
11-3
8-5
7-6
8-2 (2025 not completed)
I get it. Brian Kelly had a strong record coming in also. But we can’t discount coaches who have had sustained success just because the last one didn’t work out. Records matter. I would take this if we can’t get Lane.

Is that Riley? He could be good here

I’d take Riley a million times over Drink.

Bring back Baker and this would be a good hire

This must be Riley. I'd 100x take him over Drink and I don't even like Riley.
He sucks like Drink too. BK Jr. Soft teams, can't win big games, clueless on defensive operation, poor preparation, can't win anything with elite QBs, etc.
Any of this sound familiar? All the "big" NCAA names suck arse right now outside the ones you have absolutely no shot at moving like Kirby.
I think it's better for LSU to take a risk in this search because none of the big names are convincing enough. They got burned with BK and he sat on his money which is a big risk now if you hire someone like Kiffin. You reset the market for coaching searches and he has every reason to sit on his money. You don't know what his motivations are and if he even cares once you set him for life.

A large number of people here want Frank Wilson as head coach. This place is fringe-full.

He wouldn’t be in my top 5 choices but at least his offenses can run the football. Would have to have an elite defensive staff for him to work though

I’d like to see a Lincoln Riley team show some balls and win a tough game like the one coming up next week @ Oregon. If he wins it, Id be more interested.

I know recency bias is kind of a thing on here, but please don't forget how bad his defenses have been. This is his defenses in that span:
57th
95th
67th
34th
70th
81st
117th
46th
30th
Do you remember what 2020, 2021, and 2023 felt like watching games? It was excruciating. Riley will bring us more of those years than not. I'm not convinced Kiffin would be a ton better, but I think he at least cares about the defensive side of the ball - Riley clearly does not.

I don’t think it matters what DC you pair with Riley. Or at least up to this point in his career.I think his defensive issues run deeper than the coordinator.
My guess is it’s the way he structures the week and practices.
I guess it’s always possible he could “change” if the right DC forced him to.
Riley has had good enough players and coordinators at his 2 stops to have at least fielded a couple good defenses. But it seems to be no matter the talent or coordinator he’s never able to field a good/elite defense. The only constant is Riley. He clearly does something wrong on that side of the ball.
I want an offensive-minded coach. We all do. But the fact remains you cannot win a championship without a good/elite defense. You can walk and chew gum at the same time…. I’d rather an offensive minded head coach that absolutely will not settle for merely an average defense.

Records matter.
This is about as dumb as it gets!
So we should hire Bear Bryant? I’m sure he’s do great in this era of football?
And according to you, Ryan Day is the best coach in college football regardless of the fact he inherited a national championship program and was almost fired last year if he didn’t win the national championship?
Why don’t we just hire Mike Jacobs from Mercer? He’s 93–21 as a head coach?
Does recency play into anything? Riley is 11-3, 8-5, 7-6 and 8-2 the last three years at USCw while Drinkwitz is 6-7, 11-2, 10-3 and 7-3 at Mizzou. Does this matter at all?
We need to find the right person for the job. I don’t care if it’s a big name, an up and coming coach from a smaller program or an assistant who is ready for a lead gig. Find the right coach and stop trying to make coaches fit into whatever type of tortured logic you’ve created in your head.

He's never even had a serious contender at either Oklahoma or USC.
Why would he suddenly contend here? Those two programs aren't exactly chopped liver.

Here is the litmus test. What is the coach's record vs top 25, top 10, top 5.
Posted on 11/16/25 at 3:49 pm to Oneforthemoney
Assuming your litmus test is .500 or better vs top 25, 10 and 5, who are the coaches who pass your test?
