If he's really serious about being a head coach, let him go get a job at a smaller school and prove he can build a program. There is nothing he can do as an interim coach to prove he has what it takes to build and maintain a quality college football program. The only thing we have to go on is an epic fail as coach of Ole Miss. If he's learned from his mistakes, fine, go prove it. It shouldn't matter how many games LSU wins under his stint as interim coach.

I can only speak for myself, but I'm not in the "no way it can be coach O" camp.

There are 3 home run hires that I think will be available to LSU: Tom Herman, Jimbo Fisher and my #1 hope, Chip Kelly.

If LSU cannot get one of those coaches, you have to look elsewhere. Coach O has every opportunity to move himself into the second tier and become one of those, "If you can't get a home run, get yourself a double..." kind of hire.

I have to admit, 4 wins have made more open to the concept, but I ain't ready to crown his arse yet.

This times a billion. He has neither a good record as a head coach nor a demonstrated ability to be an outstanding coordinator who can maintain excellence on one side of the ball.

Those are the two best qualifications you can have to get a major head coaching job. He lacks both. This is not dislike. This is not because I don't really want him to stay at LSU. I like him personally and I hope he stays at LSU.

The ignoramus will say, "no way it can be Coach O". We haven't seen this type of offense in years. If we beat Alabama, the same naysayers will say "no way it can be Coach O".

If we win out, the same the same naysayers will say "no way it can be Coach O".

If we win the SEC championship, the same naysayers will say "no way it can be Coach O".

If we get to the playoff, the same naysayers will say "no way it can be Coach O".

If we get to the title game, the same naysayers will say "no way it can be Coach O".

If we win the National Championship, the same naysayers will say "no way it can be Coach O".

All we want is for people to give the guy a chance. If he loses a few games, many of us are open to look at other options.

Yeah i get that but just because he wins a few games doesn't mean we shouldn't be looking at other options, right?

I agree with you. We always have options. I just have a problem with the guys that are Never Orgeron.

All of the guys who seem to be lobbying for Orgeron seem to be incredibly short-sighted to me. What makes a head coach successful? A lot of things. You can really only tell about a coach about 2-3 of seasons into his tenure whether or not a guy has the goods to build or sustain success.

You see some of this in the NFL over time in a shorter period of time. Guys who can adjust to other people's adjustments and still succeed are the ones who are franchise changing coaches. People who don't know what to do when other teams take away their preferred options are exposed.

Right now, we have this incredibly short window of games to look at. And people are going fricking nuts because Orgeron has blown out some bad teams and is in touch with the message board and radio show call in complaints. It is great that we beat bad teams but we put up over 40 points on bad teams last year as well (9/19/2015 Auburn (7-6) 45 points ; 10/3/2015 Eastern Michigan (1-11) 44 points; 10/24/2015 Western Kentucky (12-2) 48 points; 12/29/2015 Texas Tech (7-6) 56 points). None of that meant very much last year, don't forget how optimistic many LSU fans were going into the Bama game last year.

RE: appealing to message board and radio show talking points? That's clever of him if he wants to lobby for the job that would pay him millions of dollars. But it is kind of a bad sign in the sense it is not something you see elite coaches worry about. Those guys let their results dictate fan satisfaction.

The only game we shouldn't win is Alabama.

If he wins out I think he gets a chance. If not I don't think he's done enough to get the job.

I do too. I think the misconception with the "never O" people are that they absolutely would not take O. Don't get me wrong i know there are some out there, but i think that is the minority.

I think the vast majority of people who are put in to the "never O" category are just operating under the assumption that someone like Jimbo, Kelly, herman (personal taste. I know he's a touchy subject), petrino, fleck, etc. Are interested and would take the LSU job.

So that's why they slam O so much. If we knew for certain (which we likely won't until years later) all those guys shut us down i think those people wouldn't be opposed to stepping in assuming he finishes strong down the stretch.

Again, i know there's some true "never O" and "only o" people. I just think it's more about how high up people are ranking him in the coaching search more than anything. Just my observation from the boards, though.

Well, then there should be no controversy then because there is no way all those coaches you named would turn LSU down.

I don't think so either. I was just trying to make everyone understand that it's not really "Never O" because we hate the guy. It's more "Never O" because there are many other candidates ahead of him and one of those would likely say yes. At least that's how i view it.

Exactly

Although Aranda isn't at the top of my list he is well ahead of Orgeron for me. Not because I don't like (or want Ed to stay at LSU) but because I think Aranda is a more special football coach.

There's another article on there talking about him teaching defensive formations this week in preparation for Kiffin.

Congrats on doing what every D-line coach on every team does every week.

That's how I view it as well. For me, it's "Never O" from a practical standpoint. I think it's almost impossible that the 7 or so guys I would prefer over him say no. But if they all do somehow, sure give O a contract for a couple of years and see what happens.

dont think it had much to do with Coach O, it was more about Saban being smarter than anyone else and adapting and us having the bafoon for too long..

totally agree, without a doubt the most important guy in this is Aranda, he damn near makes the decision for you.. if he says he would stay for two guys, Herman and O, then offer Herman the world, if he turns it down, then you almost have to go with O.. and i wouldnt like that one bit because you dont use 12 million dollars to fire a guy then hire his DL coach.. doesnt make sense.. but I think Aranda is worth that.. If someone ask me who the next saban is, Id say Aranda..

REALLY??? Wow, that is one heck of a compliment right there. Not saying your wrong, but he hasn't even sniffed the HC position yet. I wouldn't have a problem saying he is one of the best DC's in the country but the next Saban.... pretty big step right there.

Love him, hate him, He is One of very few guys who can recruit the trenches to compete with bama. I believe coaching is 70% players and 30% coaching. Those who have the best players, usually are the best coaches. Did O do some things poorly at Ole miss? yes. Could he improve? absolutely.

I Think Coaches Like Pete Carol (fired at two different places n.e. and jets). (Bill B. fired at Cleveland),Gary kubiak (fired at texas), Tony Dungy (fired at tampa) Tom Caughlin (fired at Jacksonville) all prove you can improve as a head coach.

I'm not pimping O for h.c. but I'm not bashing him either. I don't think he's the worst option, the question is if he is the best option. We just don't know what the options are.

I'd probably take Venables or Aranda as being the next Saban over the field (If we can only pick from DCs)

I agree with you, it is bold to say, but Id back it up with my reputation. Thats how strong i feel about it. When I was younger I said the same thing about saban when he started out. I know talent when I see it...its what I do for a living. I remember having multiple conversations with my father about Harbough and Meyer, said the same thing years ago about them.. I could say the same thing about Kirby smart, I think he will be alot like Muschamp, good coordinator but dont feel really strong about his head coaching abilities.. Think he may have more success than muschamp though because the east is very weak right now..and will be for a few more years..
