Listening to ESPN Radio on the way to work and they played a sound bite from Herman's press conference at UT.

He said "It was a no-brainer to come to UT." The way he said it really seemed like a huge slap in the face to Houston and his former players.

I understand it probably isn't a no-brainer to jump from UT to Houston, but damn man, you could at least pretend you mulled it over for a few minutes.

I guess he doesn't care about public perception? Frankly I think Herman is in for a rude awakening in Texas where expectations are going to be super high, and not Houston where he is treated like a god with a 3 loss season.

There's really no need to analyze every little thing this guy says or does to try and demonize him at this point. We made our own bed.

Probably more of a slap in the face at LSU and Alleva--and a deserved one.

When they asked about an agreement with LSU he responded "Whats important is where we are now." pretty much nevermind the means to the end, what it took to make UT happen.

These guys are football coaches. Most of them are ex players and complete meatheads, so you can't hang on to every word they say at a press conference.

Herman is still a young guy, so it's no surprise if he isn't the best public speaker.

He also said "pressure is that uneasy feeling you get when you're unprepared". He's never had a big time pressure job before. He sounds like an a-hole.

What made you think he was gonna tell people he was really considering going in another direction? That stuff is for off the camera.

I'm over Herman because he was never coming here. Even if LSU had hired him, he would have probably jumped ship to Texas as soon as he could.

I wish we would have given Fisher everything and more.

I'm not sure if you heard the sound clip, but to me it was very dismissive of Houston. And I know Houston doesn't compare to UT at all, but they treated Herman well and he could have mentioned how hard it was to leave his Houston family.

But he didn't give that impression at all.

What do you want him to say "I really wanted to go somewhere else, but hey ain't money great?"

Come on. This is Coach platitude 101. Ed O has had like 6 dream jobs, no reason to take these comments seriously.

What part of this thing do you idiots not understand?

That Herman wanted to be at Texas?
He would have been our coach had Texas not fired Strong?
A deal was in place to come to LSU?

Every tiger fan should be happy JA didn't enter a bidding war with Texas because we weren't going to win and THEN we look stupid having lost in a bidding war. Also we make Herman more money...now why in the frick do we want him to benefit from fricking us over?

yeah i mean it's Houston, the commuter school to end all commuter schools that isn't even in a major conference. if any school understands that UT is a no brainer, it's Cougar High. i mean hell all they have to sell is a stepping stone job + lots of money from fertita

that's fine with me. UT has to pay more and it shows we're serious about winning to every other candidate

what exactly is the downside?

That's the problem with sound-bites. They don't tell the whole story.

The very first thing when he came on stage was this:

quote:

Before I begin, I would be remiss if I didn't thank and express my truly heartfelt affection for the University of Houston and the people that make it great. My sincere gratitude to President Khator and Hunter Yurachek, the Houston campus, and the greater community, but most of all, the exceptional young men in the football program who I know will go on to do great things on the football field and in their lives. Houston will always have a special place for me and my family.

UH isn't there yet, but I wouldn't put money against that school going places (football and, longer term, academically). Especially if they can hold onto their current president. She is so much better than fricktard FKA.

Also any cash you take from UT decreases their chances of hiring Aranda. Also a public signal for negotiating position to Ed O that he is a second choice at best.
