Not enough alternative names being thrown around. I’d love Freeman but he seems far from a sure thing to take the job. How about some suggestions other than Kris Richard and Muschamp? Is Leonhard realistic at all? You know Ponamsky is trolling the board looking for ideas...

Honestly, they seem so sold on Freeman that I’m not sure there is a true 2nd place candidate.

They will likely wait out the NFL to see if a candidate emerges.

Richard was reported by OTOP as a guy of interest.
Odom seems to be staying put. These change.

Dellenger threw out Andy Avalos' name last week on the radio as a possible target

I think we’re pretty damn close to it being a done deal for Freeman if he’s flying into town with his wife.

It’s never over until there is a signature but I’ve got to think we’re real fricking close.

That's because they have unemployed Richard as a safe option for O to fall back on. He's a comfort zone pick for him since ole Pete recommended him last year. He would be a terrible signing. Odom is a maybe. I think he's holding out to see if LSU wants him which is why he hasn't signed with Texas yet.

Would Tosh Lupoi be considered? Heck, what about Kevin Steele?

Way too fricking toxic

I don’t know that I would hate Lupoi. He would probably be serviceable but not great.

I’m always hesitant with DC’s who made their name’s working under Saban. Especially DC’s who made their name under Saban and then got cut by him.

Don't know you tell me. He's unemployed for a reason and judging by his comments, easy to see why. Not to mention Pete is going to recommend him after shite canning him himself. If he's such a good DC where are all the calls? Also seems like the worst person to put in LSU's locker room. Not mention he told LSU last thanks but no thanks and wanted to do 0 recruiting last year. He seems like a head case reading his interviews.

He seems like an awful fit for us. His scheme also doesn't make sense for LSU. Too much zone and LSU has never been a zone team as it's harder concept for college players to learn.

Why do you guys keep bringing Steele up? He had his shot at LSU and absolutely shite the bed while being here. That's actually the point I'm making with Richard. Steele's scheme was too complex and he played way too much zone in it without simplifying his concepts. LSU had the worst defense in like 10 years before Pelini came when Steele was here. He was here 1 year, shite the bed, then bolted for Auburn. He was not a good fit.

Arnett or Reeves.

Would be ahead of Freeman on my list.

Thank you for that one. I will contact Mizzou AD to send it to Drinkwitz about Steele!

Because Steele is the most experienced and SEC battle tested DC. Going into this season the market place had him at the second highest paid coordinator in college football only behind Steve Sarkisian. In 2019 Auburn had the only defense able to slow down LSU the greatest offense ever to 23 points. You say defense concepts are too complex but Aranda concepts were said to be complex. If Freeman does not work out Steele has the best resume of available DC.

No reason for a 2nd choice, because we’re getting our 1st choice Marcus Freeman. No sources. I’m speaking it into existence. It’s what’s going to happen.

I'm sure they have names. And those names are closely guarded.

The approach, in general, with Freeman is "you're our guy". Simple as that. They don't want any names out there because that works against that general approach. They don't want Freeman to think he's fighting for the job. LSU doesn't want to appear disorderly and indecisive.

Again, the approach is you are what we need Mr. Freeman and we thing we're what you want.

Now, I'm sure some non-employees, trusted non-employees, are in contact with those backups or their agents. That way if it leaks there's no direct link to LSU and both sides can legitimately claim "LSU has not contacted me". That's where these searches usually start anyway. "Feelers" is what most call them. And many of them were prior to the Ole Miss game, so some have expired while others are still hanging out there.
