I was thinking how different things are today from 1995 as it relates to coaching searches and information.

It’s ironic that now in a world of information overload due to the internet we know less about the process than we did in 1995 when our information came from 2 places - TV and newsprint.

I remember waiting for the 5 and 6 pm news to get the latest update. We literally saw Pat Sullivan and Gerry Dinardo walking from the athletic department to their vehicles after interviews! They gave no comment, but there was no doubt who was in the running to be HC!

Random memory was Dinardo getting into a large white sedan with somewhat tricked out rims. I’m sure it was a rental, but it caught my eye, lol.

We track flights now. No one will be interviewed until the season is over.

I also hope things are different in that lsu won't consider head coaches with losing records or scoff at paying an $80,000 buyout

Dinardo’s last game before being hired was a 65-0 loss to UT. Ouch.

There was an opportunity to pull in John Cooper in 1995, and Dean blew it.

Cooper would have had LSU winning 9 games a year for half a decade or more before retiring. Maybe even better than that.

We've had so many bad football hires and managed to skate anyway, it's hard not to get excited about what a qualified, competent coach could do here.

Ahhh, I remember Cooper being a name in the mix then. Wow, what might’ve been. Of course the road led us to Saban and 3 NC. But talk about incompetence.

Arnsparger had a losing record as a HC when hired. Curly Hallman was the winningest coach we have hired, at the time of hire, in the last 50 years.

A little graphic I put together a week ago or so.

I attended that game with my dad, a Vandy grad. Miserable weather to go with the beat down. Honestly, Fulmer called off the dogs early in the 4th.

About 1-1/2 later DiNardo came here for an alumni party, function, etc.Chapter president introduced us and said "I-59 Tiger's Dad is a Vandy grad" or similar. I looked at DiNardo and said, "yea, I was at your last game in Nashville vs UT."

That’s an awesome table you put together, the kind of research you can use to support and defend a position. Good work.

In 95? Cooper was at Ohio State in 95 coming of of his 3rd straight season in the top 20. Whatever you think of LSU vs Ohio State in terms of prestige now, it was undoubtedly a step down to go from Ohio State to LSU then.

I assume Cooper knew what he had at Ohio State. He went on a run of double digit winning seasons, 11-2, 11-1, 10-3, 11-1. Ultimately, his inability to win the Big 10 or beat Michigan would cost him his job in 2000. 2-10-1 vs Michigan.

Cooper and the AD at Ohio State were on the outs, which ultimately led to his getting tossed for Jim Tressel not much later. His agent had reached out to Joe Dean expressing interest in the job.

Too expensive, Dean said. Didn't pursue it.
