Not many left in my to read list, so looking to refill it.

What was your favorite (or multiple if you can't narrow it down) that released in the last 5ish years?

Bonus - What's your favorite book ever?

+1 on Project Hail Mary for the past 5 years.

All time is the Lord of the Rings Trilogy.

East of Eden by Steinbeck for just fiction.

I expect my favorite of the last 5 years will be (just ordered):

The Oceans and the Stars: A Sea Story, A War Story, A Love Story - Mark Helprin.

I just noticed it. Came out in October 2023. Helprin wrote three of my absolute favorites - Winter's Tale, A Soldier of the Great War, and Refiner's Fire, and some good shorter stories. But he hasn't turned out anything I've thought was all that great in decades. This one is getting glowing reviews, though, and comparisons to A Soldier of the Great War. Honestly, I tend not to read many books that are recent. If it's not Helprin for my pick then my recent 5 year favorite = Razzmatazz by Christopher Moore which I'm half way through.

Favorite ever - Infinite Jest - David Foster Wallace.

Last 5 Years: Weyward - Emilia Hart

All-Time: This is a tough one. I don't think I could pick just one:

I Know This Much is True - Wally Lamb
Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen
The Lady of the Rivers - Philippa Gregory

Last 5 years released: probably The Lost Metal (great conclusion to era 2 of Mistborn and sets stage for era 3/more cosmere crossover) or Yumi and the Nightmare painter (can be a standalone, thought I would had it and was my favorite of the secret projects last year) both by Brandon Sanderson

Best all time: was A Storm of Swords by George RR Martin now it’s tied with A Memory of Ice by Steven Erikson (prob the best overall Malazan book? They’re lall so good) and Words of radiance/Oathbringer by Brandon Sanderson.

My book..."Why, Gary,Why?"

Favorite book of All-time...not counting my book, that I have read..."If You Really Loved Me" by Ann Rule.

I also enjoyed "First Blood" because...spoiler alert....Rambo dies.

I liked it better than The Martian.

Definitely this. It’s Weir’s best yet imo and just an awesome journey if you like his style. Same author as The Martian for those not in the know.

Give an update when you’re done, but you’ll have a blast! I’d argue Project Hail Mary is one of the best novels that’s specifically better suited for audio.

I expect there will be a popular film adaptation one day as well.

I think it was the best audiobook I've ever listened to. Usually only listen to them when I'm driving or mowing the grass. Can't really sit and focus on one if I'm not occupied with something mindless. It's the only audiobook I 've ever been able to just sit and listen to.

Last 5 years: The Winners by Fredrik Backman this was the conclusion to The Beartown trilogy.

I would have to think hard about ever but it is possibly The Beartown trilogy. I deeply loved these characters.
