Got rejected from library. But I really I haven't read many classics.
Looking for short story anthology too.

Call of the Wild is a quick read you should read if you haven’t before.
If you like Call of the Wild, read White Fang.

Count of Monte Cristo...
My favorite book EVER
My favorite book EVER
Frankenstein by Mary Shelly
Animal Farm as suggested earlier
Lord of the Flies
Brom Stoker's Dracula
Many of the Edgar Rice Burroughs series are entertaining if sometimes far fetched (Tarzan, John Carter)
Several Kipling options (not sure why he has somewhat fallen out of favor) I'm a big fan of The Jungle Book.
Edgar Allan Poe wrote great short stories.
If an ebook is acceptable amazon has decent prices, here is an example.

You may be able to find many of the authors on one of the public domain/free site like
