About the Mexico City Campaign in the Mexican-American war. I like his writing style, it’s a page turner.
And if you’re a civil war nerd, it’s interesting reading about all of these green future famous soldiers and generals working together and marching to Mexico City.

The Little Shepherd of Kingdom Come by John Fox, Jr.
This was my late father's favorite book when he was a child. I also read it as a child and now, many years later, purchased a 1912 edition on eBay and am reading it again.

How is/was it?
The first 100 pages were a bit of a chore. The second 100 pages are better.
ETA: I just finished it. Maybe it was the translation but I thought it was just ok and it could have been trimmed about 150 pages imho.

This Was A Man the seventh and final book of The Clifton Chronicles by Jeffrey Archer. I guess that it is historical fiction, but I know that I'm going to be sad when I'm done. This is a great series and I highly recommend it.

Check out Fall of Giants when you are done if you haven't read it. (I posted about it on the previous page)
I googled the Clifton Chronicles and it seems very similar.

It is quite similar. I have read Fall of Giants. The female antagonist in The Clifton Chronicles is one of the biggest bitches ever conceived.
