The Liberator-Alex Kershaw

I like the way Kershaw writes, makes it pretty easy to read and understand. This is about an Army officer’s 500+ day tour in Europe during WWII. He goes from Operation Husky in Sicily all the way to the liberation of Dachau in Germany. Just started and am enjoying it so far.

Kershaw’s books aren’t typically lengthy, this one is about 350 pages long, but his writing style makes his books pretty quick reads.

His book, The Bedford Boys is one of the best WWII accounts I’ve ever read. I typically don’t like history books centered around one person or one unit, I like reading about the big picture, corps and army movements, but he keeps me very interested.

I'm about 1/3rd into Scalzi's Old Man's War, and it's very, very funny. Was not expecting that.

Finished “The Terminal List” by Jack Carr. Can’t wait for his next one out in 2019.

Just started “Outlaw Platoon” by Sean Parnell. He seems to be a great guy and does tons for the military and veterans.

Also reading “Sleep Like A Baby” the next in the Aurora Teagarden series by Charlaine Harris.

Just finished Dreams of my Comrades: The Story of MM1C Murray Jacobs by Scott Zuckerman.

Disappointing ...
Promoted as the recollections of a 95 year old Sea Bee's WWII experiences. Memories so traumatic, and illegal, that he makes the author promise to change his name, not reveal any of the interviews to his family and not to publish the book until after his death.

It's a quick read, but really wasn't what I was expecting. Parts of the story are good, others not as good. Of local interest, the author does share a meal with a local SeeBee veteran at Sal and Judy's. Bobby Arthurs lied about his age and enlisted in the Navy at 15 and found himself serving 2 years in the Pacific Theatre. He was the highlight of the book for me.

Try Outlaw Platoon by Sean Parnell. It's a memoir of his time in Afghanistan as a troop leader. His first novel is scheduled to come out this year.

Thanks for the recommendation. I'll check it out.

I'm about halfway through Stephen Ambrose's To America and will probably finish it this weekend. It's interesting to read about Ambrose's changes of opinion over his life as a college student and then as a teacher and historian.

Hopefully it’s as good as Red Rising.

I’ve been tearing through Don Winslow’s books. I don’t know how I overlooked them when they came out. The Cartel and The Force are excellent. Reading Power of the Dog now.

He is a very funny author. Brings a lot of humor in his books.

Doing a re read of the Power of the Dog right now. It's a masterpiece and I haven't picked it up in a long time.
