I'm about halfway through Lonesome Dove. I'd seen the miniseries many years ago and liked it. Finally got around to reading the book.
Its amazing what good writing can do. The first quarter of the book is just setting up the characters, and them arguing about biscuits and whores, and its still interesting as hell.

Written by a young historian who stayed in Mosul after the Isis takeover and put out a blog on what was happening. It was the best intelligence source the world had about what was happening in Mosul. Very interesting so far.
