Sea of Tranquility- Emily St. John Mandel

Excellent book, but you have to read The Glass Hotel and Station Eleven first.

I saw sea of tranquility at the library the other day, picked it up, read the jacket and was like eh this is not for me, and it made zero sense ( didn’t know i needed to read the book before until I read your post ) that’s been on a lot of Amazon best of 2022 lists

-Just started 1491- Charles’s mann
-And the guest list - a whodunnit that’s pretty touted on Amazon as well. Not usually a mystery reader but changing it up for a bit

The Glass Hotel and Station Eleven are both great books.

The 3 books make this sort of strange trilogy where they all tell a completely different story, but they are all connected by certain events and characters.

It's really incredible in my opinion.

The Illuminatus! trilogy as fun counterpoint to the Gulag Archipelago which was grueling. This is the Audible version and I had qualms about someone doing this on the cheap, because it's complicated as hell and I had my doubts about the narration. Surprisingly, it's pretty well done. Maybe a bit over the top on vocals, but heh, how can you possibly go over the top with this book. Robert Anton Wilson was an interesting thinker. One thing that has been lost is that the left used to have libertarian and anarchist thinkers. And I can respect them. The current crowd of leftists - F them all. This book may have served to inoculate me against all the stupid conspiracy stuff of the current cultists. It was WAY ahead of its time.

RE: The Psychology of Persuasion. I'm probably biased because I love books on psychology. I thought it was excellent!

RE: The Three-Body Problem. It looks like it's being produced by the guys that did Game of Thrones. That will be interesting.

Finished a Gentleman in Moscow this weekend. It was enjoyable, nice read, but it wasn't nearly as good as Lincoln Highway IMO. When I finished TLH I read a bunch of reviews online and the prevailing opinion was AGIM was outstanding but TLH just wasn't quite as good. I have to imagine that a reader would likely lean towards whichever they read first, because to me I thought TLH was miles better. But I certainly didn't dislike AGIM and i'm glad I read it. I really like Towle's writing style but not sure if I have interest in Rules of Civilyt, not right now anyway.

Went to the bookstore and bought Blood Meridian and Three Body Problem based on all the priase in the thread. I'd heard of BM/Mccarthy before just never really given it a second's thought to actually dive in. This one doesn't look too long so should be a good starter book for him I'd think.
