A friend recommended The Lincoln Highway by Amor Towles. I'd never heard of it but it's far better than I would have expected. It's about a kid in 1950s Nebraska who sets out on a journey basically. Sounded pretty boring but the writing it excellent. I'm only about halfway through but can't wait to finish up.

I'm reading a book titled: Jerusalem The Biography by Simon Sebag Montefiore.
I'm thinking the calling it "The Biography" is just kind of a marketing thing by the author or publisher. It is really just a straightforward history.
So far it is good - well written, providing the information in a readable style. It IS very long - over 600 pages including maps and end notes.
For anyone interested in history, and who has the time, I'd recommend giving it a try. Goes all the way back to David and goes through the Babylonians, the Persians, the Macedonians, the Romans, the Christians, the Muslims and on and on. Lots of wars, battles, conquests, etc.

You should read A Gentleman in Moscow by the same author if you enjoy his style. I thought the same thing when reading the description of the book, but the author does a great job of developing characters and the storyline.

The Pale Blue Eye by Louis Bayard
I tried to watch the movie on Netflix, but much of the scenes were in dark places and with my 81 year old eyesight I couldn't see very well. Also, my hearing is poor and I couldn't keep up with the dialogue. I think that after I read the book I'll give the movie another go.

funny you say that, after I finished TLH I heard other good things about gentleman in moscow and bought that and am making my way thorugh it now. It's good but I don't love it like i did TLH.
I'm guessing that whichever you read first is probably your favorite. After I finished TLH I read a bunch of reviews online and was kind of shocked becuase there were a TON of people that were total fanboys over GIM and thought TLH was subpar in relation. For me it's the exact opposite though.

The entire (for now) Slough House series by Mick Herron upon which the Apple TV British production Slow Horses with Gary Oldman is based. I’ve read the first five books (of seven) and they are while somewhat derivative and written with TV/Cinema in mind, great contemporary fiction.

I saw sea of tranquility at the library the other day, picked it up, read the jacket and was like eh this is not for me, and it made zero sense ( didn’t know i needed to read the book before until I read your post ) that’s been on a lot of Amazon best of 2022 lists
